🍂 AFPT at ITHEC 2024: Showcasing Innovation through Our Technology At ITHEC - International Conference and Exhibition on Thermoplastic Composites 2024 in Bremen, the world’s top experts in thermoplastic composites came together to discuss the latest developments shaping the future of our industry. While AFPT wasn’t physically present with a booth, our photos and technological advancements were prominently featured in presentations throughout the event, highlighting the impact of our machines and innovations. A standout moment we noticed from afar, was the keynote by Steve Cease, who spoke about the personality trait of 'tenacity'—a trait AFPT has embraced throughout our journey of driving a wider adoption of these materials. He emphasized that while thermoplastic composites have been in development for decades, their widespread adoption is still on the horizon. His message was clear: our time is coming, and we must remain persistent in driving forward! At AFPT, we have always believed in the potential of laser-assisted tape deposition (LATD) technology and its role in creating high-performance, sustainable materials. The recognition of our work at ITHEC reinforces our commitment to innovating and delivering solutions that will shape the future. As the industry continues to grow, AFPT will be there—leading with tenacity and technological excellence. #Innovation #Thermoplastics #Composites #ITHEC2024 #FutureMaterials #Sustainability

Composites for sustainable mobility 🚗🔋 On today's #ThrowbackThursday, we would like to take a look at the CosiMo project. In this joint research project, funded by the Free State of Bavaria, partners from academia and industry have developed a smart thermoplastic #RTM process. Based on a comprehensive sensor and data network, the performance of new materials has been investigated. Therefore, sensor data of an intelligent mould as well as machine data of an injection machine and a hot press has been centrally acquired and analyzed. With CosiMo the partners have gained all-around knowledge on closed-loop control applications combining real-time sensor data, material parameters from lab data and simulation data. For demonstration purposes, a prototype for battery box covers for electric cars made of glass fibre nonwovens was manufactured at the DLR in #Augsburg. Components made from fibre-reinforced thermoplastics can reduce weight compared to aluminium or steel. A lower weight of electric cars enables the installation of smaller and lighter batteries with the same range. This saves costs, reduces installation space and shortens charging times. 👋 Meeting our next partner 👩🔬 Today we meet Almut Eisenträger, a senior scientist, from our partners at Fraunhofer ITWM. Fraunhofer are our numerical simulation experts. They will perform process and system modelling to test the technological feasibility of EVERGLASS. They will use mathematical models to simulate the laser morphing process and determine the optimal parameters for glass waste recycling under our technology. As Almut explains, projects, such as EVERGLASS, are important for trying out new solutions in a non-restrictive environment. She hopes the project will change how people think about old glass. #CircularEconomy #GlassRecycling #LaserTechnology #Society #Modelling

Have you ever seen 35,000 (in words Thirtyfivethousand) volts in action? Watch this video and you will see and understand why even microscopic holes can be detected by this method in your silicon bags. This is a video from my #composites360OnTour series that my Composites Lounge team and I created during JEC World 2024. alan harper shows you how you can decrease cost in composites production. Ian Flavell, Director of a composites manufacturing firm in the UK and André Antunes from Brasil give reallife examples and explain in quite some detail, how much you can save with reusable bags. Not only is the cost saving a factor that I liked, but also reducing lots of production waste and last, but not least, the surface quality are beyond perfect. Look at the biofibre part. We all know that these pose a challenge sometimes due to natural variances. Thank you Alan Harper Composites Ltd. and team for the insights into your technology. And Alan, I need to commend you on your entertaining skills. You are talented with demonstrating complex technical matters in easy to understand language. Community, what do you think? Stay tuned for further TechTaining videos made by Composites Lounge that are connecting the dots for you! #innovation #JECWorld #sustainability JEC Group

🌍 Visiting Tour at the University of Trento 🌍 Last month, I had the pleasure of visiting the University of Trento as part of our ongoing collaboration for the JetCell project. The team at Trento is leading the study on dimensional accuracy. During the visit, we performed coordinate measurements on our printed 316L stainless steel and Red Mud composites at both green and sintered states. This study is crucial for revising the scaling factors of the mixed powder feedstock used to compensate for the shrinkage during sintering and enhance the accuracy of our binder jetting process. The collaboration between Politecnico di Milano and the University of Trento continues to push the boundaries of additive manufacturing in sustainable energy production. It ensures that the anode produced achieves precise dimensions after sintering, enabling direct implementation in fuel cells with minimal post-processing, thus enhancing the overall design integrity and functionality. #AdditiveManufacturing #BinderJetting #Sustainability #JetCell #FuelCells #Polimi #UniversityOfTrento

𝗦𝗔𝗩𝗘 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗗𝗔𝗧𝗘 Join the 𝟱𝙩𝙝 𝙄𝙣𝙩𝙚𝙧𝙣𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣𝙖𝙡 𝙎𝙮𝙢𝙥𝙤𝙨𝙞𝙪𝙢 𝙤𝙣 𝙁𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙜𝙪𝙚 𝘿𝙚𝙨𝙞𝙜𝙣 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙈𝙖𝙩𝙚𝙧𝙞𝙖𝙡 𝘿𝙚𝙛𝙚𝙘𝙩𝙨 - Trento, 14 - 16 May 2025 For the first time, Trento hosts a stimulating exploration in the heart of material defects (e.g. spanning non-metallic inclusions, pores, micro-shrinkages, surface roughness) with a special focus on the contemporary challenges posed by additive manufacturing. This technology is reshaping mass production, that is why we will discuss its implications, especially in critically stressed applications. Notably, defects in traditional applications, such as cast alloys and weldments, can be invaluable in navigating the challenges of future technologies. We will cover a wide range of issues in order to: ✅ improve understanding of defect mechanisms; ✅ assess the impact of defects on structural integrity; ✅ devise measures to enhance fatigue properties of materials and components. 🔴 The Symposium is promoted by the Università di Trento - Matteo Ing Benedetti, Politecnico di Milano - Stefano Beretta, Università degli Studi di Padova - Giovanni Meneghetti, and Bundesanstalt für Materialforschung und -prüfung - Mauro Madia. Be part of the conversation! We warmly welcome contributions from any industrial sector. ➡ More info here: https://lnkd.in/d4MxqDug
