Addressing #FoodSafetyChallenges in Africa's informal sector is crucial for improving public health, promoting sustainable urban growth, and ensuring #AfricaFoodSecurity. By adopting #InnovativeStrategies and learning from successful #UseCases, we can develop targeted interventions to tackle food safety risks in the informal sector. One example is the development of #ParticipatoryGuaranteeSystems, which involves collaboration between local communities, vendors, and authorities to enhance food safety practices and hygiene in wet markets. Such approaches not only address food safety challenges but also empower local actors to contribute to the improvement of their own #FoodSafetyAfrica. By investing in #FoodSafetyInnovations and fostering a culture of #Collaboration and #KnowledgeSharing, we can create a safer, healthier, and more resilient food system for Africa's growing population. #newresearch How can we improve measurement of food security among Indigenous peoples? Caroline Deen, Kamilaroi woman and research fellow, led an Editorial on food security measurement that was published in the 'Health Promotion Journal of Australia'. The authors highlight the inadequacy of current food security assessment frameworks used in research and policy that are largely informed by capitalist and colonial food system values. They call for Indigenous food security measurement tools that are culturally responsive, privileging Indigenous peoples' voices, their values and experiences. More than 600 million people fall ill and 420.000 die every year after eating contaminated food. These illnesses and these deaths are largely preventable if food safety is prioritized along the food chain, from the producer to the consumer. Denmark is known for high standards in #FoodSafety, enhancing confidence in exports from the Danish food cluster. To further improve national systems and share solutions that benefit other countries and markets, knowledge sharing is essential. The Danish food cluster continuously seeks new opportunities and global collaborations to make food safety better for everyone. In a world facing constant change and new challenges, the theme of #WorldFoodSafetyDay is 'prepare for the unexpected'. With a strong tradition for collaboration between companies, researchers, authorities, and organizations, Denmark can and will contribute to #GlobalFoodSafety.
