Innovatie in de praktijk… “US battery start-up Lyten is committing more than $1bn to build the world’s first large-scale factory to produce lithium sulphur batteries, an emerging technology that could help break US dependence on China for metals crucial for the energy transition.” “The factory, located in Reno, Nevada, is expected to start production by 2027, the first target set for the commercialisation of a type of battery that could challenge the incumbent lithium ion. The battery does not rely on graphite, nickel, manganese, or cobalt — metals in which the vast majority of the world’s supply is controlled by Beijing.” Lees hier het volledige artikel: https://on.ft.com/3YnyMYp

Excellent article about GANFENG LITHIUM CO., LTD Slow is fast, fast is slow There are many challenges and difficulties ahead. How to resolve them one by one is a test of the wisdom of the head of the family. As someone who has gone through cycles many times, Li Liangbin also has backup plans. ✒ First of all, thanks to years of deep cultivation in the industry, GANFENG LITHIUM CO., LTD is the only company in the global lithium industry that has the industrialization technology of "extracting lithium from brine", "extracting lithium from ore", and "extracting lithium from recycling". It has the production capacity of more than 40 lithium compounds and lithium metal products in five categories, and is one of the manufacturers with the most complete supply of lithium products. At present, it has built an industrial ecosystem that connects the upstream , midstream and downstream, and the solid industrial foundation provides a major grip for the company to resist the cycle. ✒ Secondly, we will continue to increase R&D investment for technology project development and scientific research results industrialization, undertake major national and provincial scientific research projects, and host and participate in the formulation of national and industry standards. At present, the company is carrying out technical research and development and industrialization of solid-state lithium batteries, which is expected to significantly reduce the safety issues of the first generation of lithium batteries and rangeThe world's first batch of Dongfeng E70 50 vehicles equipped with solid-state batteries have been delivered to the market in batches. 📌 Again, in the investor relations activity record sheet disclosed on April 14, 2024, Ganfeng Lithium revealed that it plans to build a production capacity of 600,000 tons of lithium carbonate equivalent by 2030 to meet the growing demand for lithium products. Group1 unveils potassium-ion 18650 cells: Full post - https://lnkd.in/gsW8UZWt Free EV Tech Newsletter - https://lnkd.in/gFDTxuxv Group1 announced the release of the world's first Potassium-ion battery -KIB- in the cylindrical 18650 form factor. The company reports that Group1's KIB technology offers a sustainable, efficient, and cost-effective solution, free from critical minerals like nickel, cobalt, copper, and lithium. It seamlessly integrates into existing LIB processes, ensuring a smooth transition for manufacturers. As part of this launch, Group1 is delivering samples to key Tier 1 Original Equipment Manufacturers - OEMs - and cell manufacturers. This new KIB battery was unveiled at the 14th annual Beyond Lithium Conference at Oak Ridge National Laboratory. At the conference, Group1 highlighted the product's path from coin-cell to pouch-cell to 18650 format. This drew interest from national laboratory scientists and prominent thought leaders in the battery space. Leveraging Kristonite™, Group1's flagship product—a uniquely engineered 4V cathode material in the Potassium Prussian White - KPW class—this battery enables what they report as an optimal combination of performance, safety, and cost when compared to LiFePO4

More Top Material l story https://lnkd.in/gjfZQWQg Top Material (360070) announced that it signed a Letter of Intent with Boston-based Nanoramic Laboratories (hereafter Nanoramic) for the common benefit of both companies. Nanoramic is a company with an innovative Li-ion battery electrode technology, called Neocarbonix®. Unlike existing electrode manufacturing processes, Neocarbonix® reduces electrode manufacturing cost through an environmentally friendly method that does not use fluorine-based binders and toxic solvents (NMP). It also enables rapid charging and discharging while increasing energy density. Nanoramic have attracted investment from GM and other investors, and with announced grant funding from the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), they plan to install a large-scale lithium iron phosphate (LFP) electrode manufacturing facility for ESS batteries in Connecticut, USA. Top Materials plans to collaborate with Nanoramic to accelerate commercialization of its Neocarbonix® technology in a relationship that may include supply LFP cathode materials to be produced at the Pyeongtaek plant in Korea for production of electrodes using Nanoramic's technology to deliver them to existing customers. CEO Whan Jin Roh said, “The LOI signed this time is beneficial to both companies. Nanoramic can get a partner to commercialize Neocarbonix® technology and secure customer, Top Material can secure a super-gap competitiveness in the LFP cathode material and electrode foundry business by utilizing Nanoramic’s technology.”

Sodium batteries are considered an alternative to lithium and some of the issues have been overcome. Northvolt’s battery has a hard carbon anode and high-sodium Prussian White cathode - reducing dependency on China's refinery process as well as not using rare earth materials. Prussian White is produced from readily available raw materials, including sodium and iron. But make no mistake, the lithium battery manufacturers, including Contemporary Amperex Technology Co., Limited as well as solid state proponents like Toyota Motor Corporation will respond, both in scale and in price. Just on a side note - WSP has worked with Northvolt in Sweden on grid connected batteries - but they are much more than that alone. #batterytechnology #storage #electricvehicles https://lnkd.in/ggtr9rsE
