EV Tech Article - Unpacking Infineon Technologies’s AURIX TM TC4x MCU: EnableCloud-Free Complex Algorithms that Increase Range and Extend Pack Life Christian Weber "Most engineers are familiar with the AURIX TC3 MCU family, which is more or less the industry standard for electric or combustion subsystems. The TC4 isn’t meant to be a replacement, but more of an extension/upgrade of the TC3 by adding advanced features to cover high-end applications and increase the accuracy for specific use cases. Let’s focus on the new functionalities of the TC4. There are a lot of improvements, but I would like to focus on two specific ones. First, there’s an internal AURIX Low Latency Interface (LLI). It connects peripherals like Analog-to-Digital Converter (ADC), enhanced timers and high-resolution Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) with minimal delay. This allows for exploiting the value that Wide Bandgap solutions (WBG; such as silicon carbide (SiC) and gallium nitride (GaN) bring to power conversion and inverter control. A second new feature is the parallel processing unit (PPU), which is a separate core, independent to the TriCoresTM. Unlike the TriCores, the PPU executes software code in parallel, rather than step by step as in a pure scalar architecture. It’s a vectorized core and commonly used in Digital Signal Processors (DSP). For example, if you are running graphic code where you’re applying the same code to many instances (such as pixels on a screen), you can run that Single Instruction, Multiple Data, known as SIMD processing." Nissan to launch low-cost Vehicle to Grid technology in 2026: Nissan announced it will launch affordable on-board bi-directional charging on selected electric vehicles starting in 2026. The Vehicle to Grid (V2G) technology allows EV owners to use electricity stored in their car’s battery to power their homes or sell it back to the grid. This technology will first launch in the UK, with plans to expand to other European markets. Nissan reports that its extensive experience in V2G includes around 40 pilot projects conducted worldwide over the past decade. Read more below! #ev #electrification #evse #charging #powerelectronics

CATL launches its ‘Freevoy Super Hybrid Battery’ for EREVs and PHEVs: CATL has announced the launch of the Freevoy Super Hybrid Battery, a hybrid vehicle battery that reportedly achieves a pure electric range of over 400 kilometers and features 4C superfast charging. The batteries will be used in EREVs (extended-range electric vehicles) and PHEVs (plug-in hybrid electric vehicles). CATL says that as EREVs and PHEVs gain traction in the new energy vehicle market, consumers have expressed dissatisfaction with the pure electric performance of these vehicles, citing issues such as short range, slow charging, and poor low-temperature performance. They’ve also mentioned the Freevoy Super Hybrid Battery gets over 280 kilometers of range with just 10 minutes of charging. The Freevoy incorporates advanced surface modification technology for the cathode material and an innovative high-voltage electrolyte formulation, creating a nano protective layer that minimizes side reactions within the active layer. The integration of high-activity, excited-state particles into the cathode material enhances lithium ion transport efficiency. Supported by CATL’s SOC full-scene high-precision model and upgraded BMS intelligent algorithm and hardware, the SOC control accuracy of Freevoy has reportedly increased by 40%, with an overall pure electric utilization rate improvement of more than 10%, achieving a pure electric range of over 400km. LEM launches SOC estimation sensor for EVs: The modular SMU family aims to meet the needs of automotive battery management system (BMS) designers seeking to maximize the driving range of electric vehicles. The SMU continuously monitors vehicle parameters such as battery performance and safety systems, identifies anomalies, and supports diagnostics to improve vehicle efficiency and ensure regulatory compliance. The design of the high-performance sensor addresses the need for minimal component size, allowing EVs to weigh less and travel further on a single charge. The compact SMU measures 29.1mm (H) x 35.5mm (W) x 49.9mm (L), with a busbar thickness compatible with 2mm to 3mm. The integrated busbar not only reduces size and improves accuracy but is also designed to accommodate various busbar dimensions. Read the full post below! #battery #ev #electricvehicles #emobility

Lyten planning $1B lithium-sulfur battery gigafactory in Nevada, up to 10 GWh per year: The facility will be located near Reno, Nevada, with the capability to produce up to 10 GWh of batteries annually at full scale. Lyten’s Lithium-Sulfur cells feature high energy density, which the company reports will enable up to 40% lighter weight than lithium-ion and 60% lighter weight than lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries. The cells are fully manufactured in the U.S. and use local materials, eliminating the need for mined minerals such as nickel, cobalt, manganese, and graphite. Lyten claims that the use of low-cost, local materials makes their lithium-sulfur batteries a lower-cost alternative to lithium-ion at scale. Thank you for highlighting our ENNOVI-CellConnect-Pouch, EV Tech Insider! We're excited about its potential to revolutionize #EV battery manufacturing. By eliminating plastic carriers and streamlining production, we're not just cutting costs – we're boosting #sustainability and safety.
ENNOVI launches new pouch cell contacting system, ENNOVI-CellConnect-Pouch: The ENNOVI-CellConnect-Pouch system is designed to reduce costs and manufacturing time while providing protection against thermal runaway through advanced lamination and FDC technologies. The company reports that the system’s design eliminates the need for traditional plastic cell carriers, typically made from glass-reinforced plastic. This removal also does away with carrier storage, molding lines, and the heat staking process. ENNOVI’s advanced lamination technology is said to ensure the structural integrity and durability of the battery pack. By using flexible die-cut circuit (FDC) technology for low voltage signal traces instead of conventional flexible printed circuits (FPC), the company reports a reduction in production time and costs, alongside a minimized environmental impact.
