🚀 𝗗𝗶𝗴𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗛𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵 𝗜𝗻𝗻𝗼𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘀: 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗔𝗿𝗲 𝗬𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗕𝗶𝗴𝗴𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗴𝗲𝘀? 🚀 I had a fantastic time at the 𝗯𝗲𝗠𝗲𝗱𝗧𝗲𝗰𝗵 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝗻𝗲𝗰𝘁 event with my business partner, Chris Juliam! Meeting the board of directors and discussing the future of medical devices and digital health in Belgium and the EU was insightful. Soon (by 2030), certain digital health technologies and medical devices will undergo joint clinical assessments as part of the EU Health Technology Assessment Regulation. However, the specifics of how digital health apps will be evaluated under this framework are still being refined. 𝗧𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗺𝗮𝗱𝗲 𝗺𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗸: 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗱𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗱𝗶𝗴𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗱𝘂𝗰𝘁𝘀 𝘁𝗼𝗱𝗮𝘆, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗽𝗼𝘁𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝟮𝟬𝟯𝟬? 𝗥𝗲𝗴𝘂𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗲𝘅𝗶𝘁𝘆: EU reimbursement frameworks currently vary, making it challenging for digital health applications. For instance, Germany's Digital Healthcare Act (DiGA) has different criteria from those in France or the UK. The new HTA Regulation aims to harmonize these processes, reducing duplication and enhancing transparency. 𝗘𝘃𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗥𝗲𝗾𝘂𝗶𝗿𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀: High clinical evidence and cost-effectiveness standards are essential. Digital health products often need extensive trials and proof of benefits, which is tough for smaller companies. Germany and France have strict clinical evidence requirements before reimbursement. The new regulation could streamline market access across the EU by allowing a single evidence submission. 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗴𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗛𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗦𝘆𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗺𝘀: Integrating digital health solutions with existing healthcare systems is complex. Many providers lack the infrastructure or expertise for new technologies. Interoperability issues can hinder digital health products from working across different platforms, a challenge not addressed by the HTA regulation. 𝗔𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗔𝗱𝗼𝗽𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: Limited awareness and resistance among healthcare providers and patients can slow adoption. Often, there is a lack of understanding of digital health benefits and functionalities. Education and training programs are essential to increase awareness and acceptance. 𝗞𝗲𝘆 𝘁𝗮𝗸𝗲𝗮𝘄𝗮𝘆: Given the challenges, it will be interesting to see if the new regulation achieves a more harmonized approach, streamlining processes, enhancing evidence requirements, and fostering greater integration and acceptance of digital health technologies. Are you looking to navigate reimbursement for medical devices or digital health technologies? We can get you started! #DigitalHealth #HealthTech #Healthcare #HTA #EU

The digitalization of the healthcare system offers numerous benefits, transforming how healthcare is delivered, managed, and accessed. Here are some key ways in which digitalization helps: Better data management and accessibility Centralized health records: Digitalization allows for the secure storage and easy retrieval of patient data, facilitating better coordination of care across multiple healthcare providers. Health information exchange: Enables the seamless sharing of patient information between healthcare providers, ensuring that all relevant data is available when making clinical decisions. Personalized care and patient engagement Tailored health plans: Digital health tools can analyze patient data to create personalized treatment plans based on individual health needs, preferences, and medical history. Patient empowerment: Patient portals and mobile health apps empower individuals to take an active role in their health management, leading to better adherence to treatment plans and healthier lifestyles. Improved quality of care Data-Driven decisions: Digital tools provide healthcare professionals with access to real-time data and advanced analytics, helping them make more informed decisions and deliver higher-quality care. Reduced errors: Electronic prescribing and digital record-keeping reduce the likelihood of errors, such as medication mix-ups or misdiagnoses, thereby improving patient safety. #healthcare #eHealth

What does the NHS look for in the value claim of new #medtech companies? The National Health Service (NHS) in the UK seeks key value propositions when evaluating new technologies that can revolutionise patient care and operational efficiency. Here’s what they look for: 1. Improved Patient Outcomes: Technologies must show potential for better diagnostics, effective treatments, or enhanced monitoring to improve patient health. 2. Cost-Effectiveness: Innovations should offer a strong return on investment by driving efficiency, reducing hospital stays, or cutting down on costly treatments. 3. Scalability and Accessibility: Solutions need to be scalable and easy to integrate across various healthcare settings, catering to different patient populations seamlessly. 4. Patient Safety and Quality: High safety standards and reliable performance are non-negotiable for new medical technologies. 5. Ease of Use: User-friendly design is crucial, ensuring minimal training and intuitive operation for both healthcare professionals and patients. 6. Evidence-Based: Strong clinical evidence, supported by peer-reviewed studies and real-world data, is essential to validate the technology’s effectiveness. 7. Regulatory Compliance: Adherence to healthcare regulations and standards like CE marking and GDPR is mandatory. 8. Interoperability: Technologies must integrate smoothly with existing systems and electronic health records (EHRs) for optimal data flow and communication. For new technologies to gain traction within the NHS, starting at the frontlines with clinical input is key. Understanding the trust’s priorities and pain points, and addressing them with scalable, easily integrated solutions can pave the way for success. National programs can then help scale these innovations, demonstrating their value system-wide. By aligning with these criteria, we can contribute to the NHS's mission of delivering high-quality, efficient, and equitable healthcare for all. #cooperandkoch #HealthcareInnovation #NHSTechnology #PatientCare #HealthTech
