These are the top three recruitment marketing sins I see over and over again: 1) You're selling You're selling your services to your clients and candidates. And that's not what they want. They want content that adds value and addresses the pain points and the struggles that they're facing. 2) You're using the wrong channels. You really need to identify where your target audience hangs out. What media are they reading and engaging with? What social channels are they going on to source content? 3) You're not measuring what's working If you're producing content, you're engaging in PR activity, you need to measure it, and you need to measure it against your objectives. Is your aim to bring in new clients? Or is it to reach a particular demographic of candidates? Failure to measure means that you're not tweaking and refining your content based on what does and doesn't hit the mark. Are you guilty of any of these?

You can't improve things that you can't measure. So if your recruitment marketing or talent attraction strategy doesn't have a tangible return, it's going to be too easy to turn off and too easy to miss opportunities to grow. For this final quarter of 2024 and into 2025, make sure you do all the brilliant basics so that you can achieve your marketing goals. Start by asking yourself: 1. what do we want to use marketing for in our business? 2. how does it link to our business plan? 3. how can it make a difference? 4. what will it be worth to us when it works? 5. how do we make sure we're using the right channels at the right times for the right things? 6. do we have a budget we're willing to allocate to it? 7. Can we measure it from the get go? 8. are we willing to give it time? 9. do we want cheap or do we want great? (spoiler - you can't have both!!!) 10. are we comfortable with being uncomfortable for a while? If you can answer all of these properly and positively, you're onto a winner. If not, think about why not. And don't start before you've worked it out. Because when attraction, retention, and measurable return works, it really works!! Just look at Sam and I......
