£12 per hour for someone who's been through an engineering apprenticeship for 3 years to learn technical skills when minimum wage is only 50p less isn't good enough, so what's gone wrong? As the UK sees ongoing increases in the minimum wage, an interesting trend is emerging: skilled workers are increasingly finding that their pay isn't far above that of unskilled roles. The National Living Wage has risen, which is a positive for low-wage earners, but it’s also squeezed the gap between skilled and unskilled worker pay. Skilled workers, who have invested time and money into training, education, and experience, are finding their pay premiums diminishing. In fact, the average skilled worker in sectors like construction, manufacturing, and healthcare is now earning just 10-20% more than unskilled workers, compared to a much wider gap in years past. For businesses, this may lead to dissatisfaction among skilled employees, potentially causing high turnover or a push for higher wages. To remain competitive and retain skilled talent, companies need to ensure that they properly value the expertise and experience of these workers. If not, they might face recruitment and retention challenges—and the costs that come with them. Let’s not forget: skilled work deserves skilled pay. #WorkplaceCulture #SkilledWorkers #FairPay #Recruitment #EmployeeRetention #HR

What's happening with salaries in the insurance industry and why is it so dangerous? In a candidate led market, one thing that becomes abundantly clear is that salaries very quickly become inflated. This phenomenon allows larger companies who are better equipped to absorb those costs to take the talent from smaller and more independent institutions and stunt their growth. Not just that, but when the market shifts back and re-establishes, those candidates get made redundant without a second thought and struggle to find roles at a similar salary levels. The only real way to mitigate the situation is to invest in training up new talent in the industry. We need to do what we can to stop these talent shortages happening. It's bad for everyone and the larger economy as a whole if we don't. It's so important, if you have the capacity, to invest in trainees, apprentices and grad schemes. #GetRecruitedUK
