The city that hosts Oktoberfest is opening an alcohol-free beer garden. Now THAT'S what I call a ringing endorsement for non-alcoholic beer. 🍺 The reasons why it's being established are very interesting (and practical). Not only have restaurant and bar owners noticed more people are drinking less alcohol, they're REALLY tired of drunken behavior. 😵 The city has a pretty dismal reputation as a 'boozy and seedy' place thanks to public binge drinking and tourist parties. Many businessowners are hoping to change that with a blend of non-alcoholic beer, mocktails, juices, and sodas. Some have even acknowledged they may face a little bit of a profit loss, but it'll be worth it to make the city safer and easier to navigate during holidays. While I've thought a lot about the mental and physical health benefits of drinking less alcohol, I completely overlooked the public drinking aspect. 🤔 Non-alcoholic beer also has a great opportunity to tap into (get it) people's desire for memorable experiences. It's kind of hard to remember a good experience when you're hungover. #beer #beerindustry #beermarketing #nonalcoholic #nonalcoholicbeer #sober #soberlife #marketingtips #marketingstrategy #alcoholindustry #beverageindustry #foodandbeverageindustry

When I quit drinking nearly 7 years ago, there were very few NA beer options available when I needed them most. I missed the flavor (and the effects, let's be honest), sure, but I think I missed the ritual of cracking open a cold beer after a long day with good friends even more. 7 years later, I'm heartened to know that today's "quitters" have tons and tons of NA beer options, even at 16 of the 18 large beer tents at Munich's 2024 Oktoberfest, making an *Oksoberfest* possible for folks like me 🍻 While writing this story, I came across a super intriguing stat from NielsonIQ that 94% of consumers who bought NA beverages in 2023 continued to purchase alcohol, signaling that many are approaching drinking with a flexitarian-style mindset. Of course, this approach won't work for everyone, particularly folks who are navigating a full-fledged alcohol use disorder, but I'd imagine that it's a lot more sustainable than quitting cold turkey for folks who aren't addicted but are still hoping to improve their relationship with alcohol. P.S. I also tried my first NA beer last week, the Weihenstephaner, and I've gotta admit... I may need to reacquire the taste for beer 🤣 I enjoyed the ritual of it, and it tasted a lot like I remember, but I had zero desire to grab a second one (and haven't had a craving for another since). That said, I would've felt very differently about it 7 years ago! I thoroughly enjoyed writing this piece and am so excited to see all of the growth happening in the zero-proof sector. Also, huge shoutout to Ian Andersen for: A) providing some great insights for this piece B) co-founding a super cool mindful drinking app called Sunnyside If you're looking to cut out or cut back on alcohol, definitely check them out! And if you need more resources and/or support, shoot me a DM.

Other than the overall experience of drinking, one of the biggest differences I’ve found between a zero-alcohol wine or beer and its boozy equivalents, is what comes right after their consumption 💃🏼 🕺 🎉🤗 I’ve had long conversations around tables, fueled by the spirit of different wines matching all kinds of foods….More wines, more food, more words, more friends. Had beers to stay fresh while enjoying live bands at festivals and clubs….More beer, more rock’n’roll, more dancing. One can’t just fire alcol from the group of components making up these drinks. It would be like firing the lead singer. Like watching a soccer game without goalies. It’s a fact that for the wine and brewing industries is necessary to embrace this new trend of living life healthy, under control, do things right and look sharp. However it will be hard to keep using in marketing the old allies like artists and rockers or even the traditions of the Monks like this article suggests. And is not even because I love rock’n’roll, even Jesus’s blood has alcol in it 🍻. Anyways, if you’d like to make a non-alcoholic or low-alcol beverage, AEB can help 😜

In a sign of changing times and shifting attitudes towards alcohol consumption, Munich, home of Germany’s world-renowned Oktoberfest beer festival, will on Thursday open its first alcohol-free Biergarten (beer garden) in a nod to changing consumption habits among the party set and growing frustration with public binge drinking. Die Null (The Zero) near the Bavarian capital’s main railway station will serve its patrons exclusively soft drinks, mocktails, juices, water and non-alcoholic beers. Last year a church convention in Nuremberg experimented with a one-day non-alcoholic beer garden while a pub in nearby Großenohe, which was already gluten and lactose free, recently took alcohol off the menu too. German beer drinking has been on a downward slide since the 1990s. With average per capita consumption at 88 litres a year, Germany is now behind its neighbours the Czech Republic, Austria and Poland. The change in alcohol consumption has threatened the survival of some age-old German breweries while others are pivoting to non-alcoholic beers, which have won fans by offering an excellent taste with lower calorie counts and no hangovers. #beer #zeroalcohol #alcoholfree #munich #Oktoberfest #zero #dienull #germany Lars Jensen Paul Villis Carol Dunne Jean-Philippe Delforge Kristof König Birgit Schaaf Lorenz Hofer Francois Sonneville Gwyneth Kelly Magdalena Edyta Przewoźnik Mark Allen https://lnkd.in/d6V9fEh7

Interesting information provided by agave spectator. A little hiccup in tequila production and volume for 2023, but this is what stood out to me....... https://lnkd.in/evybRFNw #2 SPIRIT IN THE US Tequila Revenues Grew by 8% as the #2 Spirit in the US. Tequila Breaches The 30 Million 9L Case Level, Edges Out American Whiskey. Record setting 2023 US Tequila consumption grew over 5% by volume to exceed 30 million 9L cases for the first time ever, narrowly overtaking American Whiskey as the #2 Spirit consumed in the USA by volume. Revenues from US Tequila increased 8% to record levels in 2023, gaining additional market share over American Whiskey, and narrowing the gap with US Vodka which continues to lead US spirit consumption in volume and revenue. Vodka, however, has suffered two consecutive years of revenue and volume declines, which at these current trends could allow Tequila to further narrow the gap with Vodka’s US revenues in 2024. So tequila (& most agave based spirits) are here to stay and are a growing force. They are not a one-off or just for celebrations or for the summer. If you want to create an agave based RTD, a private label tequila brand, or bulk tequila or to just start a tequila investment fund (this is a growing trend!) DM us today. Here is me enjoying a delicious Tanqueray & Tonic at our fun summer party yesterday evening. Should I have opted for a beer or a glass of wine instead and stayed off ‘the strong stuff’, seeing it was a work event? I probably would have done had I not known that that my T&T had roughly the same amount alcohol as a medium glass of wine or a bottle of beer, if not less. So actually, the effect on me was roughly the same too. It’s funny how some old myths and beliefs about alcohol persist, despite us having such ready access to science and facts. I know it can be a bore to pay attention to the strength of your drink and a total amount in your glass (don’t get me wrong, I salute those who are happy to whip out a calculator at a dinner party or on a date!), but a little research and pre-planning can go a long way towards staying on the right side of sober, and it doesn’t require a degree in maths. Remember, those who get stopped for drink-driving don’t get asked what they had to drink but how much had, and there is no breathalyser on earth that can differentiate between vodka, merlot and cider. So yes, a spirit with a mixer can be compatible with moderation and perfectly suitable for your work parties. www.drinkiq.com #diageo #knowyourdrink #moderation #alcoholisalcohol

This got my attention. A vodka from Blue Weber agave. A few thoughts on the subject: - A launch like this signals that the agave spirits category keeps going strong. - The innovation becomes ever more important for new releases. Apparently, producing another good tequila does not do it anymore. - In terms of the tasting profile, does it make sense to distil something as expensive as the blue agave to at least 95% (for it to be a vodka)? How much of the raw material flavour is left? 🤔 Would be most interesting to taste. Meanwhile, I'd appreciate the comments of those in the know. #drinks #spirits #vodka #innovation #agave https://lnkd.in/dYJcbdp4
