“I want to have a seat at the table” “I want to carve out time to work with my PM on what we build, not just launch and outbound” Too often, product marketing is downstream of strategy and what is built. How can PMMs correct this? One tool is narrative design. Product Marketing leader Marcus Andrews shares how he built and utilized strategic narratives at HubSpot and Pendo to influence the product roadmap. In this post he covers: 1️⃣ What is a strategic narrative and why is it so important? 2️⃣ How to develop and implement a strategic narrative 3️⃣ Common mistakes to avoid when developing a strategic product narrative. 4️⃣ How to bring a strategic narrative to life externally. A Big THANK YOU to Marcus for penning this first guest post for Demand! ❤️ https://lnkd.in/ggP8C-HN

What Your Framework is Missing: Flexibility in Product Marketing One of the fun things about product marketing is that we have all these frameworks. And lately, as more people intentionally pursue product marketing as a career, it feels like a framework swap meet. It’s fantastic to share ideas and learn how others tackle similar challenges. But here’s the thing: if we become too focused on needing a framework, we’re missing the point. A framework is just that—a rough outline, a map of one route to accomplish a particular objective. But the true skill, the one that only experience and awareness can bring, is knowing how to bend, flex, and adapt the framework to work with what you have. 📚Grasp the Basics Every framework has core principles. Understand these fundamentals so you can tweak and tailor the framework to fit your needs without losing its essence. 🧩Know Your Landscape No two product marketing scenarios are the same. Assess your specific context—team dynamics, resources, market conditions, and goals. This helps you modify the framework to maximize its impact. 🌿Stay Fluid Sticking rigidly to a framework can stifle innovation. Be flexible and ready to adjust as you gather new insights. This keeps your strategies fresh and effective. 🌟 Trust Your Gut Your experience and intuition are invaluable. Lean on your past successes and instincts to adapt frameworks in ways that make sense for your unique situation. 🌐 Share the Journey Swap stories, not just frameworks. The real value lies in sharing how you’ve adapted frameworks to overcome challenges. These practical insights can spark new ideas for others. Frameworks are tools, not rigid rules. The magic happens when you bring your creativity, experience, and flexibility into the mix. By mastering the art of adapting these frameworks, you unlock their true potential and drive greater success in your product marketing efforts. Feeling boxed in by a rigid framework? Let’s chat about how to flex and innovate for better results. PM me for a quick 20-minute session to start transforming your approach. 🚀✨ #FlexYourFrameworks #ProductMarketing #PMM # #Adaptability #Innovation #MarketingStrategy #ProfessionalDevelopment #MarketingStrategy

What I’ve always loved about product marketing is the endless opportunities to learn. PMM touches so many parts of the business that there will never be a finite set of skills required. Join Eve Alexander, Jeffrey Vocell, Catlyn Origitano, and I as we discuss building PMM skills in this Sharebird event. Seek medical attention if you experience any of the following symptoms after the session: 1. Writing positioning statements for inanimate objects 2. Asking strangers “what’s the message?” 3. Building keynote presentations “just for fun” 4. Asking to see the “customer journey” in every meeting

POV: When product managers hang out with Marketing for too long... 🕺 h/t to Ramli "RJ" John for this one 😂 "I love it when product and marketing work more closely together. I'm not just talking about PMMs—that includes demand, growth, and content. Why? 1. You'll get a shared understanding of what customers really care about, resulting in better products and content. 2. You'll have access to in-product and marketing growth levers to move the needle on conversion, activation, and retention goals. 3. You'll get a unique perspective on what you're working on. The Product team can provide feedback on content ideas, campaigns, and more. On the other hand, the Marketing team can suggest ways to best communicate the value of new features. Who else thinks that when Product and Marketing come together, magic happens?" -- P.S. Make sure to give Ramli a follow!

Hard Learned Product Management Lession #3 - There’s a world of difference between having a Market vs simply Marketing a product. A market represents a group of people with unique needs, challenges, and goals. Success comes from deeply understanding that market and building a product that addresses those needs better than any alternative. On the other hand, marketing is about how you tell your story and attract attention. While great marketing can spark interest, it cannot sustain success if the product doesn’t deliver real value. A lesson I’ve learned over the years: you cannot market your way out of a poor product. You can attract users, but if the product fails to meet their expectations or solve their problems, they won’t stick around. To build a successful product: 1️⃣ Start with the market. Understand the jobs your target audience needs to get done. 2️⃣ Prioritize product quality. Ensure it delivers value in a way that resonates with your market. 3️⃣ Leverage marketing. Use it to amplify your product’s fit for the market. The best marketing in the world can’t compensate for a product that doesn’t deliver. But when you nail the product-market fit, marketing becomes the fuel that scales your impact. #productmanagement #productmarketing #productcampboston #productcamp

How to achieve alignment in product marketing in 60 seconds 🎥 Part of my new TLDW series. For my educational videos, I prefer long-form. My videos are typically 6-8 minutes long. But I have to accept that attention spans have dwindled. So, for someone who doesn't have 6-8 minutes, I wanted to break down all the concepts of a long-form video into a rapid-fire 60-second video. Luckily, I can talk really fast, so I am well-suited for the challenge. Being able to achieve alignment is the most underrated product marketing skill. You can write the world's greatest messaging and create a perfect launch plan. But if you can't push through your ideas, you won't succeed. So, this video discusses different psychological/alignment tactics for building consensus as a product marketer.
