When I first came to Aquent, we didn't have any #ERGs. Through the work of our #DEIB council and leadership team, we now have 10 that create space and community for our employees to talk about neurodiversity, grief, and allyship as well as ones for various ethnicities, gender, and sexual orientation. Here's to creating an inclusive workspace where all feel welcome and like they belong. Den M. shares some insights on how to get started and the value of an ERG. #DEI #DiversityEquityInclusion

Empowering underrepresented communities in the workforce starts with recognizing the value they bring. Many companies today are launching initiatives to support these communities—not as a checkbox, but as a true commitment to inclusion. Programs focused on mentorship, leadership development, and cultural awareness are making a tangible difference, helping individuals from diverse backgrounds thrive in spaces where they’ve historically been overlooked. At the heart of these efforts is a focus on heritage. By celebrating the unique experiences and strengths that come from cultural diversity, we’re creating a workforce where everyone can bring their full selves to the table. Many seem to think that it’s just about giving people a seat, but it is about empowering them to take the lead, contribute their insights, and shape the future. Today, as we celebrate #HeritageDay, we need to think about how we’re moving beyond representation to genuine empowerment, where diversity is a driver of innovation and success. #EmpowermentThroughHeritage #WorkplaceDiversity #InclusiveLeadership #UnderrepresentedVoices

The The Art Of Leadership Women's Conference was held on Monday, June 24th - a conference that champions positive change in equality and providing networking and learning opportunities to gain insights and strategies on important leadership topics. Two of our culture curators, Kimara Ackerley and Mikaela Ellis, were in attendance and learned from the many fantastic speakers including Sophie Grégoire Trudeau and Dr. Roberta Bondar. Here are some of their favourite takeaways: ⭐️ Fixed Mindsets vs. Growth Mindsets - we are all capable of both! Some common fixed mindset triggers are when anticipating being evaluated, when receiving critical feedback, when others find success, and in high effort situations. ⭐️ Mindset culture is not just on an individual level. Organizations as a whole have a mindset culture. Those who display a growth mindset culture often attract and retain more diverse talent. ⭐️ Cultures of Growth vs. Cultures of Genius - strive to collaborate, be creative, and share knowledge, rather than being competitive, recycling work, or information hoarding.

Last week I posted a poll and asked In Your Opinion, Which aspect of DEI initiatives is most crucial for fostering an inclusive workplace? And most people said an Inclusive Leadership / Culture. Inclusive leadership and cultivating an inclusive culture are fundamental aspects of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) initiatives that significantly impact fostering an inclusive workplace. If your current company isn't prioritizing inclusive leadership and culture, you can start influencing that change by leading by example, promoting open dialogue on these topics, encouraging diverse perspectives, raising awareness through training and workshops, and setting measurable goals to track progress. By championing these values and actively advocating for them within your organization, you can help steer your company towards a more inclusive and equitable future.

1wRashad, great point on looking at diversity and inclusion as strategic advantages. My organization has made tremendous progress on gender diversity through targets in the gender balance of the workforce. Without targets “you can’t measure what you don’t measure” (Peter Drucker). As for challenges, it seems that geographic background targets haven’t been met yet (the organization doesn’t use race) which requires the leadership you describe above.
