One of the biggest challenges in Indian sports is the talent drop-off that happens between the ages of 15-19. This is a critical transition period where many young athletes either step up or step away from their sport. The reasons are plenty—economic pressures, financial instability, or simply realizing that they're not progressing as expected. This phase often marks the point where talented juniors start losing their momentum, making the leap to senior-level competition incredibly tough. For most families, the risks associated with pursuing a career in sports are immense. The odds of 'making it' as a professional athlete are staggeringly slim, while the probability of success through education feels much more attainable. We need to bridge this gap. If we truly want to nurture our sporting talent, especially during these vulnerable years, we need better systems of support. Whether it's financial backing, career counseling, or simply creating more viable career pathways in sports, the solution can't just be telling kids to "choose sports." Over the past 15 days, I've received six calls from students/young sports professionals either currently pursuing or having completed sports management courses abroad, with some already working in the field. They all had a similar question: "Are there good opportunities in India? We want to come back." Based on these conversations, I’ve drawn a few hard-hitting conclusions.I could be guilty of generalising based on a small sample size, but given the consistency of the concerns raised, I believe it's a reasonable assumption. 1- Limited Long-Term Career Growth: The sports industry, both globally and in India, does not offer substantial long-term job career growth or easy job transitions for those dissatisfied with their current roles. Young professionals, regardless of location, need to be aware of this reality, which is tied to the industry’s revenue and business opportunities. 2- Inadequate Salaries Abroad: Current salaries in the sports industry abroad are often insufficient to cover essential living expenses like rent and family needs, making it challenging for professionals to sustain themselves financially. 3- No Significant Advantage from Foreign Education: While the quality of education in foreign countries may surpass that of Indian institutions, it doesn’t necessarily translate into preferential treatment or better job opportunities for candidates in the industry. It all boils down to who wants to come aboard within the limitations of renumeration. Think twice, talk to people before making a decision. #sports #sportsbiz #india

If I was given a chance to re-enter my college life🧬 🔀What all are the things that I would surely be clear about this time? 1. Accept the college you have entered; now you have to stay there for 3 years. Despite your guilt, just accept it. 2.Make sure to initiate the first talk (I can understand it can be a bit of a task) and talk to as many people in your class as possible. 3.You don't have to join each and every society in your college; focus on those that match your requirements or your hobbies. 4.Let's say you are targeting a few companies under your placement drill. Work as per their requirements from the beginning and make your profile stronger. (Talk to seniors who have already been placed in that company.) 5. Wow, it’s been six months since I left the cozy comfort of Nepal to start this thrilling adventure abroad. Arriving during winter, when the streets felt deserted and everything seemed unfamiliar, added an extra layer of challenge to my journey.
