9️⃣ 0️⃣ percent of leaders think an employee engagement strategy will impact overall business success, however only thirty-four percent of the U.S. workforce say they currently feel engaged in their workplace – so where’s the disconnect? 💡 In 2024, we’ve began to see a major relationship reset between employers and their employees. Part of this shift stems from the drastic changes we’ve seen in where and how people work. While remote and hybrid-capable careers have become a huge necessity for many, research indicates HOW employees are managed has about 4x as much influence on employee engagement and wellbeing in comparison to their actual work location. Radical changes in where and how organizations do business often leads to stress and disconnected employees if not done thoughtfully. Which leads me to Thought Leadership… 💭 Thought leadership and innovative approaches are crucial for the future of Human Resources (HR) as they help organizations stay competitive and adapt to the rapidly changing business environment. Thought leadership in HR involves introducing and advocating for new ideas, practices, and technologies that improve employee engagement, productivity, and overall workplace culture. Innovative HR approaches leverage advancements such as artificial intelligence, data analytics, and flexible work models to enhance recruitment, employee development, and retention strategies. By embracing these forward-thinking practices, HR can drive organizational success, foster a more dynamic and resilient workforce, and create a more inclusive and supportive work environment. Which in turn often leads to higher employment desirability, decreased turnover, and higher overall profitability. ➡ The first step in innovative, thoughtful leadership is having the right tools and expert guidance. Fostering Employee Engagement Across a Multigenerational Workforce In today’s evolving workplace, fostering engagement across multiple generations is essential, particularly for employees in their 50s, whose needs and priorities differ significantly from their younger colleagues. The Michael Page Talent Trends 2024: The Expectation Gap report, which surveyed 12,940 people across the Asia-Pacific region, highlights the challenges organisations face in bridging this expectation gap. Understanding and addressing the specific drivers of job satisfaction for those in their 50s is crucial to maintaining a productive and loyal workforce. For employees in their 50s, management style plays a pivotal role in job satisfaction. This age group values transparent, supportive leadership that fosters trust and respect. Additionally, strong relationships with managers and co-workers are critical, as these employees often seek a collaborative and harmonious work environment where they feel valued and connected. Another key driver is belief in the company’s leadership team. Employees in their 50s want to feel confident in the direction of the organisation and trust that the leadership is making decisions aligned with long-term success. They are less concerned with career progression and more focused on organisational stability and values. Hybrid and flexible work arrangements are also a priority for this demographic, who often juggle personal and professional responsibilities. Flexibility provides them with the balance they need to stay committed and engaged at work. Finally, a clear set of company values and well-defined goals are essential for fostering a sense of purpose. Employees in their 50s want to work for an organisation whose values resonate with them and where their contributions are aligned with the company’s overarching objectives. By focusing on these factors, organisations can close the expectation gap and retain their experienced employees, ensuring long-term success and a motivated workforce. This is the third article in my 10-part series, "Bridging the Generational Gap: Embracing Age Diversity and Inclusive Hiring for a Future-Ready Workforce." #TalentTrends2024 #MichaelPage #PageGroup #AgeDiversity #FutureOfWork #InclusiveWorkplace

Employee engagement is more than an HR buzzword – it’s the lifeline of an organization. Repeated studies over the past 10 years have shown that the business performance of organizations in the highest quartile of employee engagement scores outpaces that of competitors, according to Gartner. High employee engagement correlates with higher average revenue growth, net profit margin, customer satisfaction, and earnings per share. (SOURCE: https://lnkd.in/eRvdcGqG) Do you want a team of motivated, collaborative, performance-oriented individuals? Does attracting and retaining the best talent sound appealing? If so, building effective employee engagement strategies is a no-brainer. Employee engagement was in decline before the pandemic, but trends like “The Great Resignation” and “quiet quitting” only made a pressing need more obvious – redefining the relationship between employer and employee. Only a third of employees in the U.S. are engaged, according to recent Gallup data. Gallup also found that in 2024, employee engagement levels reached their lowest point in 11 years. The drop was particularly acute for remote, hybrid, and younger workers (SOURCE: https://lnkd.in/eRvdcGqG). If you want to counter those trends and become the type of organization that people love to work for, it’s important to understand what exactly employee engagement consists of. While specific definitions of employee engagement vary, they all revolve around the same idea: the degree to which employees feel invested in their jobs and organizations. A recent poll from Gallup revealed the U.S. employee engagement rate has dipped to just 30%. For some, this may not ruffle your feathers, but if you’re paying attention to the employee lifecycle, that’s a scary number. Think about it: Employee engagement strongly impacts the onboarding, retention, and development phases of the employee lifecycle. That’s a lot of area to cover for one metric and a sizable chunk of the employee experience. To see employee engagement down to a mere 30% shows that we lost their attention somewhere along the way. To avoid or lessen the chances of employees becoming disengaged: 💠 Check to see when you last revamped your onboarding processes. Does it set clear expectations and begin aligning the new hire with the company’s culture? These are minor adjustments that make a difference in engagement. 💠 Hold one-on-one meetings for personal and career development outside of annual and performance meetings. This will allow you to address concerns as they develop and before they get out of hand. 💠 Offer comprehensive benefits packages that are valuable and meet employees' needs. Lackluster benefits have the potential to decrease morale, satisfaction, and retention. 💠 Ensure that employees clearly understand your expectations and the goals and objectives assigned to them. This will give employees direction, purpose, and a sense of accomplishment when goals are achieved. Proactively improving the employee lifecycle can increase engagement and enhance the overall employee experience. #HR #EmployeeExperience
