So last night we had jump training, getting riders to take control of the horses shoulders and maintaining rhythm before and after the jumps.
This helped riders develop a better canter and understanding the use of the outside aids to help turn, keeping the horse upright and balanced by riding inside leg into outside aids.
Canter poles before and after a jump set this up nicely, and gave more understanding of the importance of riding a quality canter around the corner to the poles.
We then moved onto riding a line of jumps and keeping control of the speed into and out of the combination of upright to oxer and another upright with one stride between each. Riders had to think a bit quicker and develop feel through the exercise. Riding this off both reins gave riders a good insight into strengths and weaknesses within the partnerships.
We then progressed this into the 4 jumps on a curve, starting with the poles on the floor to establish the correct skills required to maintain balance, rhythm and control of the shoulders. Next step was every other jump up and riding in both directions, then eventually all 4 jumps up.
All riders developed their skills and understanding of how much more they require to fine tune their horses to developing the canter from good to great 👍

Behind the scenes of set up at F45 Training South Africa Bryanston branch. The aforementioned quote is something the studio in its ethos, methodologies and running takes quite seriously.
Although as a studio we get the same template of the workout to follow across the world in lieu of F45 Training, we find it super helpful for our team of trainers to give a breakdown of the set up to give a consensus amongst the team of what exercises are worth focusing on that members either struggle with, need further progressions on or that are problematic for a demographic of members struggling with injuries that make the movement difficult to execute.
