As a tech writer, you should be able to write accessible documentation that resonates with diverse users, especially those with abilities. In my recent talk at the State of Open Con 24, titled ‘Enhancing Open Source Documentation: A Focus on Accessibility’, I talked about how open source communities can craft documentation that not only achieves clarity but also inclusivity. Accessible documentation is not just about clarity; it's about creating documentations where everyone, including users with abilities, can benefit. This approach is critical in the open-source community, where diversity and inclusion are key drivers of innovation. I invite you to watch the recording of my session to discover ways you can make your open-source documentation more accessible to a diverse audience. Let’s contribute to a more inclusive open-source ecosystem together! Watch the session here: https://lnkd.in/eny2R4nX Feel free to share your thoughts and experiences on enhancing documentation accessibility in the comments or connect with me directly. @openuk_uk #SOOCon24 #OpenSource #StateOfOpenCon

There is a worldview that decided certain things were essential to the success of open source software on the internet, namely a "gift culture" and the ability for "many eyes" to make "all bugs seem shallow" (what ESR called "Linus' Law"). On the other hand, the current discourse is talking about how maintainers are overburdened and undersupported. This talk is about how open source technology gets made, and what social factors of open source development our CATB-influenced worldview made us ignore, leading us into the way the world is today.
