We have one of the best bosses in Britain—officially!
The other week, the Pollen team pulled off our biggest surprise yet, and it was all for our founder, Sophie O'Brien.
If you watch the video, you'll see all the incredible reasons we nominated Sophie.
Not only is Sophie an amazing boss who inspires and leads with heart, but she's also an extraordinary advocate for our community of 4,000 young people looking for an opportunity.
As you know, at Pollen, we do things differently, creating a better experience for both the job seeker and the employer.
Thanks to our matchmaking process, we've already helped 45 young people land full-time jobs, and so many more have discovered opportunities through our hidden jobs board and Slack channel.
It's not just about filling roles—it's about building confidence, opening doors, and changing the way companies hire.
Thank you to Ben Askins and his team, as well as Fiverr, for the opportunity to showcase not only what Pollen is doing for young people but the incredible founder behind it all.
Welcome back to the best bosses in Britain. Today I am here in Leicester Square feeling aggressively self-conscious because this is about as busy a place as it gets here in the UK. But we're here for an amazing reason. We're here to meet Sophie, who is the founder of Pollen Careers, which is a career platform designed to get graduates into work. Specifically focusing on the graduates who might not have the degree, might not have the grades, might not the experience needed for that job. I've got so much time for this and we're about to go meet her team and surprise her now. It's the most public one of these we've done yet. Hello. Hello. Hi, I'm Ben. Can I sit down and have two minutes? Your time, is that OK? Yeah, I'm a content creator, so I talk a lot about business and entrepreneurship and companies and things like that. And a few months ago we ran a competition to find the best bosses in Britain. So we. Yeah. So we've got hundreds of applications and we narrowed it down to the five buses we think were most deserving of the title. How did my own very expert opinion. Right. OK, Can I embarrass you for like 2 minutes and just read why you were nominated by your team? You are the first boss to see me as a person, my background and qualifications. Not good enough for anyone else, but you really saw me and fully believed I would succeed. You have always believed in giving people a chance and that is what has allowed Pollen to build such a positive company culture. You always put the growth and impact of the business over profits, whether that's choosing to not take a salary yourself or providing them most positive working experience for your employees. Your dedication to building a business that is successful and will last is beyond admiration. You are the first boss I've ever known who will actively turned down business opportunities that you do not believe align with Pollen's values you would rather lose. On a chance to make money, then place someone from our community at a company that you do not believe will provide the optimum experience. You are so invested in our community and you're passionate about what you do is genuinely contagious. You return from every single call with a job seeker saying I wish we could hire them. You'll take multiple hours each week to offer help to anyone looking for a job within our community. It's pretty amazing. They just say how beautifully written that stuff is. I agree, you're very good people. So there's a couple things I'd like to do for you. So first, we're going to put this video across all of our channels. To try and drive marketing for you guys, but we're also working with a company called Fiver, so they're sponsoring this whole thing and they're the marketplace. Obviously, you can hire some of the best freelance in the country. They're giving you 5000 lbs to use on the platform to hire freelancers to help support your business. Awesome. Now this want to say thank you. Honestly, you stood out amongst everyone else. You really did. So I just want to say congratulations for being you and for running such incredible business. Thank you and thank you to your team for nominating and let me crash the lunch basically amazing. Thank you so much, guys.

Our founder, Giovanna Ventola, was recently interviewed by Newsweek after one of her videos went viral. Having faced three layoffs in three years, Giovanna discovered a game-changing strategy for job applications. In the interview, Giovanna highlights her "power" approach: apply for jobs on Monday and revisit job postings on Friday. This method helps job seekers manage their mental health and structure their job search effectively.
Despite the challenges in the job market, Giovanna turned her experience into a positive force by founding our professional Slack community, Rhize. Here, job seekers exchange tips, support each other, and find new ways to navigate the job market.
Her advice to fellow job seekers:
🌱 Pace yourself.
🌱 Keep tabs on your mental health.
🌱 Budget and plan for 12 months without work.
🌱 Expand your networking beyond LinkedIn.
🌱 Embrace random conversations and volunteer to meet new people.
As Giovanna wisely puts it, “You don’t need a job to grow. Use this time to develop skills for yourself.” Let's support each other in our professional journeys.

"We have an internal recruiter”
Yes, you do! And they're probably awesome. 😊 But here's the thing...
Many of the Scaling European Startups I work with also have amazing internal recruiters.
But even superheroes need a sidekick sometimes, especially when:
🔸 That 3-person recruiting team became a solo mission
🔹 The req load is giving your recruiter anxiety
🔸 You’re breaking into a new market and need help understanding the landscape
🔹 Growth goals are ambitious (and so are deadlines!)
I’m more of a band mate - I’m not trying to replace your lead singer, together we make the whole show better!
If you're realizing your internal recruiter is overworked, or you're planning a big push into the US market and know you'll need extra support, let's chat!
Recruitment needs aren't one-size-fits-all, so let me know how I can complement your in-house efforts

Career Coach | Solving the Swedish Talent Shortage | Advocate for International Professionals in Sweden | Founder of Intertalents in Sweden | PMI Winner Under 35 Changemaker Leadership Award 2024 | Consultant | Speaker
These are the kind of messages that make all the work I do worth it 🤩
This was from a student inside my networking course.
Did you know that I spent over 6 months making my “Network Your Way to a Job in Sweden” online course?
And I’m currently on month 6 of making my “Swedish Style CV” course.
I put a lot of love and care into my material to make sure that the person who gets the most benefit is YOU.
Because I am you, an international professional in Sweden, and wish this information was available for me when I first moved here in 2017.
So yes, I know that everyone is trying to sell you a course these days but this is more than that to me - it’s a mission to give internationals the secret playbook to what really happens when job searching in Sweden.
And I go there. I’m not politically correct, but I am honest and will tell you straight forward what works and doesn’t.
Everything is laid out how I wish it was for me instead of hunting and learning through trial and error.
At the moment, my Networking Course is 50% off for only a few more days to help those who are impacted by layoffs (or may be soon).
Use the code LAYOFFHELP50 at checkout.
Access the course here: https://lnkd.in/emAqftFb#Sweden#WorkInSweden#NewToSweden#ExpatsInSweden
Spoke with a VP yesterday looking for his next gig.
Great guy.
Though it was funny, he started the call apologising.
The previous 4 DMs from me he ignored.
I'd been pitching to recruit for him for ages (and doing a bad job it seems).
Let me repeat the same thing I said to him
Just because you didn't respond to a recruiter who:
Pitched you a role
Tried to prospect you
Anything in between
Doesn't mean you can't reach out when you are next looking.
It's not how this game works.
Well not with me anyway.
Anyway must go - I've got some shitty BD messages to write.
