CALL FOR EVIDENCE: Individuals and organisations are invited to share their views and experiences of transport systems to improve transport accessibility for disabled people in the UK. Policy Connect, the Accessible Transport Policy Commission, and the National Centre for Accessible Transport (ncat) have launched a new inquiry to develop a policy and regulation roadmap for #AccessibleTransport in the UK. The inquiry will gather evidence about a range of policy areas and transport services, and examine the commitments made in each of these areas by the UK Government and devolved administrations in Northern Ireland, Scotland, and Wales. More information is available here: https://lnkd.in/eiE-tSWZ. Contribute to the Call for Evidence here: https://lnkd.in/eKB3sUpR. If you have any questions or need an alternative way to complete this survey, please contact Gurur Deniz Uyanik (deniz.uyanik@policyconnect.org.uk). We can provide a Microsoft Word version, or complete the survey with you over the phone, or via a Video Relay Service with a BSL interpreter.

🚑Our #InterregATHU Project Healnow laid the foundations of the cross-border cooperation of the emergency services of Hungary and Austria. 📄Last week in the official gazette of Hungary, a law was published on the announcement of the Framework Agreement on Cross-border Rescue Service Cooperation between Hungary and the Republic of Austria. Now regional agreements can be concluded to establish cross-border rescue cooperations. These agreements will allow - among others - to organize ambulance services in the framework of cross-border cooperation. The framework agreement is also available in English in the official gazette of Hungary: https://lnkd.in/d3c_XEmt ✅After a successfully implemented project #MadewithInterreg, the legislative process is further strengthening the cooperation.

Transportation is not only an essential service to every citizen but a right. Government should deliberately support the sector (From budgeting and policies) to ensure citizens receive quality, reliable, affordable and safe public transport. In Kenya, Matatus play a pivotal role in providing public transport. I believe, NMA Matatu Summit will present an arena to discuss key challenges in the sector in an effort to provide sustainable public transport. NAPTA, Aholi Charles

Encouraging to see such dynamism at the heart of government. There was much to talk about with Sarah Healey Perm Sec at MHCLG. I’m particularly interested in alignment across government and with business on promoting the skills and productivity we need in construction. #housing #Skills #Construction #Growth #NPPF #IndustrialStrategy WIG

We addressed the Committee for the Executive Office yesterday on the services we provide, as well as our recommendations for how refugee and asylum communities can be better supported in Northern Ireland. Our discussions covered: - Publishing a Refugee Integration Strategy as a matter of urgency - Using Ukraine Assistance Centres as a model of best practice and extending this model to all refugees and asylum seekers - The challenges and risks from hostile immigration policies for people seeking safety and sanctuary in Northern Ireland. 📚 ULEZ: A Key Battleground in the London Mayoral Election 📚 With London's mayoral election looming this Thursday, the ULEZ has become a key battleground in the race for City Hall. Initially implemented in 2019 under Sadiq Khan's leadership, the ULEZ has expanded to cover all of Greater London, aiming to improve air quality. While it has faced challenges, preliminary data suggests a positive impact. However, debates over its socio-economic implications persist, highlighting the importance of inclusive policymaking. As the election approaches, the ULEZ debate illustrates the need for open dialogue and consensus-building to address pressing environmental concerns not only in London, but internationally. Here are my thoughts. #ULEZ #LondonMayoralElection #AirQuality #London
As London braces itself for the forthcoming mayoral elections on May 2nd, one acronym has dominated discussions across the city: ULEZ, or the Ultra Low Emission Zone. Conceived as a measure to reduce vehicle emissions, the ULEZ has emerged as a key battleground in the race for City Hall, shaping political discourse and sparking widespread debate. London has long grappled with air quality issues, posing significant health risks particularly to vulnerable groups such as children, the elderly, and ethnic minorities. However, the ULEZ also carries socio-economic implications, affecting businesses, commuters, and residents alike. In this article Air Quality Consultant, Ben Turner, highlights the arguments on both sides of the debate, and the need for collaborative solutions and inclusive policymaking. New Transport Minister Barbara Creecy D saying it like it is. "Every year our country sees in excess of 10 000 fatal crashes, which the Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC) estimates amount to almost 3% of our annual Gross Domestic Product. This is totally unacceptable from both an economic and a humanitarian perspective." If our Fit-To-Drive program, which focuses on the optometry, health and compliance needs of commercial drivers in South Africa, can reduce this number of fatal crashes then we're on the right track. #GuudDrivers #DriversWellness #FitToDrive
At least '10 000 fatal crashes' every year, says new Transport Minister Barbara Creecy | News24

It seems like the recent saga with Motsoaledi's visa rules is a classic case of a comedy of errors. I find myself torn between feeling annoyed with the Minister and feeling sorry for him because it's hard to believe that he truly knows what he's doing. Further, the claim that the backlog consists only of spousal and dependent visa applications is not only irrelevant and untrue, but it also contradicts the numerous high court orders against the Department of Home Affairs to respect family life and expedite visa issuance. Perhaps it's time for Minister Motsoaledi to consider stepping down with some dignity, especially given the mounting issues and confusion surrounding many issues, including visa regulations. It's important for leadership to inspire confidence and competence, qualities that seem to be lacking in this situation.
No surprises here - https://lnkd.in/ekhf-mqT

🗓️ On October 23-24, Protect Humanitarians participated in the International Location Safety Duty of Care Pavilion and Conference at AidEx - The Global Humanitarian Aid Community. This event provided a platform to explore solutions to enhance the #protection and #wellbeing of #HumanitarianWorkers. ❗Our Founder and Director, Olivier Vandecasteele, underscored a critical reality: “We witness an erosion of fundamental rules on the basis of which humanitarian action is being delivered on the ground.” ⚠️ The risks faced by #HumanitarianWorkers continue to escalate, leading to an alarming rise in casualties among humanitarian colleagues. This highlights the urgent need to reinforce #respect for #HumanitarianPrinciples 💬 As Olivier Vandecasteele noted, solutions already exist, but they must be scaled up and reinforced, particularly in the areas of #MentalHealth support, #StaffCare, and #SecurityRisk management. 🆘 This focus is especially critical for #nationalstaff - who represent 95% of humanitarians killed - and national #CSOs and #NGOs. 📽️ Watch Olivier Vandecasteele and other panelists’ insights here: https://lnkd.in/dFza9wTW ⛑️Protect Humanitarians is an independent NGO advocating for better #protection and #support for humanitarian personnel. Through a dedicated emergency fund, we provide concrete support to NGOs and their staff, survivors of attacks, and victims’ relatives.
