🌟 Celebrating Apprenticeship Excellence. Last week, Colin Smith, one of our talented Digital Trainers, had the honour of attending the Department for Education’s National Apprenticeship Awards 2024 as a guest of the British Computer Society (BCS). Reflecting on the evening, Colin shared: "The event was nothing short of inspiring. Being surrounded by organisations and individuals who champion the power of apprenticeships—whether by employing, teaching, managing, or innovating them—was truly uplifting. The atmosphere was electric, with heartfelt applause celebrating the winners and their incredible supporters." For Colin, what stood out most wasn’t just the joy on the faces of the award recipients but the immense pride radiating from those who guided and supported them. Apprenticeships, as Colin explains, have a profound impact—not only transforming the lives of learners but creating a ripple effect that enriches families, friends, colleagues, and workplaces. It’s a shared journey of growth and achievement. Tips 5 & 7 Are Key! 💡 As we continue to explore effective strategies for growing educator apprenticeships, here are two essential tips to ensure success: 🔑 Tip 5: Tap Multiple Funding Sources Attracting a diverse group of educators requires funding flexibility. Braided funding—combining multiple sources such as federal grants, state funds, and local partnerships—is critical for covering both program costs and apprentices' wages. Think beyond traditional funding models—explore WIOA funding, work with local Educator Preparation Providers (EPPs) to reduce costs, and consider working with intermediary organizations to access free technical assistance. 🔑 Tip 7: Look for Flexible Partners The key to building a strong apprenticeship program is collaboration. Partner with two- and four-year colleges, education non-profits, and even teacher unions to expand your resources. These partners can help with mentoring, curriculum development, and providing access to a larger pool of candidates.
