The Major Project – or Master’s Thesis – represents the pinnacle of the MARes in Hybrid Arts at the Ionian University. This is the final, defining element of the program, merging artistic practice with rigorous academic research. Overview: The Major Project begins with your research proposal submitted as part of your application to the program. This project is not simply a thesis; it is an innovative exploration that integrates original research with creative practice, reflecting the unique interdisciplinary approach of the MARes program. Key Features: Original Topic: Your project will showcase novel research with a strong artistic focus. Creative Integration: Your creative work will be documented and analyzed to demonstrate methodology, insights, and conclusions. Critical Reflection: The project will include clear documentation of the research process, alongside textual analysis that supports your findings and reflects on the creative journey. Final Outcome: The final submission combines artwork with a dissertation (typically between 15,000 to 25,000 words), representing the culmination of your creative and intellectual efforts. For students passionate about combining art with academic research, the Major Project offers a unique opportunity to push boundaries and create meaningful, impactful work. https://lnkd.in/dRaH-yEX #HybridArts #MARes #IonianUniversity #ArtResearch #MasterProject #ArtThesis #CreativeResearch

In the research programme of colleague Madeleine Dungy at NTNU Trondheim, there are two vacancies for PhD positions. "These positions are part of the ERC project “InternalFortress: Regulating European Freedom of Movement within the Nation-State, 1950-1980,” which will trace the history of migration as part of the early process of European integration. Each PhD position will focus on one national case study in either France or West Germany, and applicants should specify which case they would like to examine in the research statement." https://lnkd.in/dGtwBVU6

Just returned from the beautiful Tromsø in Norway. I provided two lectures at the PhD course "Qualitative Methods" at UiT (The Arctic University of Norway). Thanks so much to UiT and Siri Sollied Madsen for organizing the course. I provided one lecture about Validity in qualitative research and one lecture about Reliability in qualitative research. Two lectures - but validity and reliability are two sides of the same qualitative coin. With departure from the paper: "A contextual identification...." - https://lnkd.in/etueJ9W, we had some really good discussions of how to include validity and reliability in qualitative research, and how we can visualize qualitative data, also included in the paper: https://lnkd.in/etueJ9W Thanks to all the participants for good discussions and active participation.

Today this excellent Nordic research team led by Åslaug Ommundsen at UiB was awarded €13 million from the European Research Council (ERC) 🎉🎉 📚 Medieval books played a vital role in shaping European history, but less than 10 percent of the European manuscripts survived. The team will investigate how books and literary networks shaped Northern Europe between 1000 and 1500 CE. The #CODICUM project brings together experts in history, literature, and bio-codicology from four Nordic universities to explore medieval knowledge networks. This groundbreaking study combines traditional humanities approaches with cutting-edge biomolecular analysis of fragments from medieval books, written on animal skin. - These fragments represent an extraordinary treasure trove that can transform our understanding of how books and ideas circulated in medieval Europe, professor Åslaug Ommundsen at UiB says. On Sunday one of my undergraduate supervisors, Professor David Dumville, died. There’s a wonderful tribute which I’ll link to below. David – or Dumville as we generally knew him – was a wonderful supervisor as far as I was concerned (I’m aware that others did not always have the same positive experience). He was famous for his very detailed red pen commentary on essays and his irascible, humorous approach. He was incredibly knowledgeable and his breadth and depth of expertise was for me the model of the academic. I despaired of ever knowing as much as he did. I’ve long since given up trying. I remember him fondly for stealing my stripy paperclips off my essays. When I challenged him on it, he said I shouldn’t use such interesting paperclips. I can completely see myself giving the same answer now if we didn’t do everything on line. David sent me on my undergraduate dissertation fieldwork – a week of camping and exploring on the Isle of Mann to find inscriptions. It was an incredible adventure which ended up with me sleeping in my car because my tent blew down on the last night. Admittedly he probably didn’t know that was going to happen at the time. And I could probably have done the dissertation without the fieldwork. What I know now is that the level of red pen feedback he gave was an act of service. That kind of feedback is laborious and generous and easily wasted by the recipient. There’s a book on the Oxford tutorial system which is called ‘Thanks, you taught me how to think’. That is what I think when I think of David. He very much influenced the kind of academic I have become. So thank you for teaching me how to think, Professor Dumville. Requiescat in pace. https://lnkd.in/eWJKbfWF
