#PKU alumnus Zhang Yahui is among those chosen for the 2024 Sloan Research Fellowships. Zhang obtained his B.S. in Physics from PKU and his Ph.D. in Physics from MIT and then he was a postdoc scholar at Harvard University. He joined the Department of Physics and Astronomy at JHU as an assistant professor in 2022. Hi all, I have some exciting updates for my graduate career at UCI! First off, I am honored to have been awarded the NSF Graduate Research Fellowship which will be supporting me for the rest of my PhD. Secondly, I have just published my first physics paper in Physical Review D, titled "Q-balls in anti-de Sitter space" (https://lnkd.in/gjg7KiMQ). This paper explores the classical solutions for self interacting scalar fields which form non-topological solitons in background AdS. We identify new branches of solutions not present in flat space which exhibit third order phase transitions. Lastly, we provide some connection to the CFT dual theory via AdS/CFT which seems to be related to so called "quantum scars." Along with this paper, I have previously published in the Journal of Analysis and Mathematical Physics (https://lnkd.in/gSuS37yv) where we studied a system of weakly null semi linear wave equations and proved global existence of solutions for this system.

This field of physics is essential to inertial fusion research, to using such tools to address issues in astrophysics, and to other fundamental studies and applications. In an effort to promote the spread of broad, fundamental knowledge in this new field, and to help train the new entrants to it, the 2024 session of this Sumer school will begin with a high-level, virtual component (June 3-7) and continue with a more in-depth component in Ann Arbor (June 17-21). The course is aimed primarily at graduate students, young scientists, and experienced scientists who are just entering high-energy-density physics. Both the book and the lectures assume familiarity with partial differential vector calculus. CONGRATULATIONS! 🎉 🙌 Elena Hoemann (Faculty of Physics LMU Munich & ORIGINS Cluster) has been granted a doctoral award by the Munich University Society (MUG) for her dissertation, “Merging, fragmentation and collapse of interstellar filaments.” 🎓 🎇 Filaments and the formation of stars ✨: Elena modeled the formation of stars in dense, cold molecular gas clouds. 🌫️ 👩💻 Employing numerical simulations and analytical calculations, she discovered the answer to a previously unsolved problem: According to the prevailing theoretical models, stars should form predominantly at the ends of cold molecular filaments. Harold Linnartz, and Sergio Ioppolo Title: Laboratory and Computational Studies of Interstellar Ices Ice mantles play a crucial role in shaping the astrochemical inventory of molecules during star and planet formation. Small-scale molecular processes have a profound impact on large-scale astronomical evolution. The areas of solid-state laboratory astrophysics and computational chemistry involve the study of these processes. This work reviews recent laboratory efforts in ice spectroscopy, methodological advances and challenges, and laboratory and computational studies of ice physics and ice chemistry.
