I am preparing to co-curate a workshop with my good friend Russell Pearson CSP, which has more of an overt focus on art instead of just creativity. The motivation is getting people to think like an artist and apply some different thinking to their normal, non-artistic work. So, it raised the question, what is art? I have always liked Andy Warhol’s definition of art is whatever you can get away with. I think the question of what art is or makes an artist is tricky, so I have turned my attention to what one experiences when making art. For most artists, the process of creating their work becomes a conversation inside their heads with their real or perceived audience, either through direct feedback or conversations with themselves. Is this any good? Will they like it? Will it sell? This is part and parcel of putting art into the world. But there is another much rarer experience: unconscious self-expression without judgment. It comes from a place of just needing to express yourself in your medium of choice, sometimes spontaneously but often after a time mulling over an idea or concept, devoid of any thought of the audience. You have no choice; you must make that mark, sing that song, or write down that power. The first experience is the same process as the day-to-day work we do, whether deemed creative or not. We make and do things for customers or our bosses to meet specific requirements and standards based on their feedback. Five Stars! The second experience is not so common in many pragmatic aspects of our work, but it gives us a window into an important part of ourselves that allows us to add a deeper dimension to what we have to offer. It reminds us that we are creative beings with something unique to offer and capable of creative expression. I think it is good for the creative soul to indulge in as much, even tiny, unbridled self-expression as we can get away with. #creativity #creativethinking #art #artofbusiness #creativeexpression #creative Barbara Capuani Rachel G. Many artists, like Mark Twain, argue there's no such thing as an original idea. Yet, Einstein believed that each person has a unique perspective that leads to originality. Being #creative is about presenting art, design, or innovation through your own unique lens, talent, and skills. Perhaps that's what Einstein meant. What do you think? I made this a couple of weeks ago as part of my daily practice. And here's the thing- I'm showing it to you upside down. When I made this, it was flipped around. When I finished, I spent some time looking at it, noticing, observing. Then I turned it around to this perspective and an image jumped off the page. And that's the magic of art - it becomes what it needs to be. When you make any kind art, you express yourself in ways beyond words. New information and perspectives emerge, sometimes surprising you. What do you see when you look at this? What do you notice? There is no wrong or right answer, by the way. What you see is what you see. And what I see is what I will spend some time with. Life is like art. Sometimes we need to change our perspective to see something more clearly. We need to look up or lie down and use our new visual angles to discover what we might have been missing. Does this resonate? Let me know. And make some art! You might just be surprised at what comes out of it. #creativeexpression #art #perspective

🐉Practical Artistry - A Thought🐉 Images and stories are a powerful thing - perhaps more powerful than we think💥 We often categorize art as impractical, thinking it's just something to look at or listen to👀👂 Art functions as the seed 🌱 of feelings, how fast it will manifest depends on how subtle or direct it is ⚡️ Like the film Inception, even when awake, an idea planted by art can grow and transform into motivation in our unconscious mind 🔥 When an image or a story captures our minds and hearts it is one of the most powerful things in the world 💥🔥💥 Do not underestimate the artist, the storyteller 🦋 ✒️ Do you think art is practical? Some questions I ask myself when I'm in a creative rut: What story am I telling? Whether abstract or literal, every piece of art has a story. Think about the emotions, narratives, or experiences your work will convey. What am I willing to risk? Growth often lies in experimenting and embracing the unknown. Are you pushing yourself beyond your comfort zone? Who is this piece for? Are you creating for yourself, a particular audience, or someone who needs to feel seen? Sometimes, this purpose can change the entire approach. Am I staying true to my vision? Trends are fun, but does your work reflect what you want to say? Authenticity in art shines through every brushstroke and line. How does this piece make me feel? Before anyone else reacts, how does your art make you feel? Does it challenge you, soothe you, or spark something new? What am I learning about myself through this piece? Art can be a mirror. Sometimes the work reveals truths you didn’t know you were holding. What are you discovering? How does my medium enhance my message? Every tool or medium brings its own texture and voice. Does your choice of materials enhance the message or feeling you’re aiming for? What questions do you ask yourselves? #Authenticity #ArtVision

There is no art form where creative blocks don't happen The same is true for us too On a regular basis, when we sculpt gods and goddesses we don't experience creative roadblocks often But when it comes to modern or creative statue concepts we do experience them Facing these creative roadblocks is rather frustrating So we came up with a simple system that helps us get clarity. Here's what we do- 1. The first thing we do is jump on a call with the client. Understanding their vision and expectations usually clears up most of the confusion. Often, a simple conversation reveals new perspectives and ideas we hadn’t considered before. 2. When the client call doesn't completely solve the issue, we consult with other senior or experienced artists. These discussions can be incredibly enlightening. Sharing different viewpoints and brainstorming together often leads to breakthrough ideas and innovative solutions. We strongly believe that every challenge is an opportunity to learn and grow, making the final piece even more special. These are the pieces which truly make us proud of our work! What are your go-to methods for overcoming creative roadblocks? Share your tips in the comments! #creativity #sculpture #brass #brassart #statues #challenges

Can you see beyond the tangible when it comes to creative products? At the core of every artistic endeavor lies a creativity circle—a metaphorical space where ideas are born, nurtured, and transformed into unique creations that resonate deeply with our emotions and defy straightforward quantification. Why is recognizing the intrinsic value of creative products so vital? Creative outputs are not just items to be consumed but are expressions that connect on a deeper level. These products, whether art, music, or literary works, evoke feelings and carry a uniqueness that cannot be commoditized. Their value is bound not by physical attributes but by their ability to touch the soul and evoke thought. Consider the craftsmanship, originality, and emotional resonance that creative works bring. Each distinct and meticulously crafted piece offers more than utility—it invites reflection, appreciation, and emotional engagement. In a world where standardization dominates, the creativity circle provides a haven for those seeking meaning beyond the material. How do these creations influence your perception of value and the way you interact with the world around you? Do you think we are all "creatives"? 🎨💡 I've been diving into Big Magic by Elizabeth Gilbert (author of Eat Pray Love) and it's really gotten me thinking about creativity. The book explores the idea that creativity isn’t just reserved for artists, writers, or musicians—it's something innate in all of us. Whether it's solving problems, designing new processes at work, or simply daydreaming, creativity comes in many forms. In a corporate world that often focuses on "hard" skills, I believe there’s something powerful about embracing our creative sides. Creativity isn’t about painting a masterpiece—it’s about curiosity, inspiration, and showing up to face the unknown with a sense of possibility. What do you think? Are we all creatives in our own way? How do you tap into your creativity at work or in life?

Creativity Shifter Part 1 Creativity is misunderstood in two ways. One common misconception about creativity is that it is synonymous with artistry. This belief, often ingrained in us from our teenage years, leads us to think that creativity is exclusive to those with artistic talents. However, it's important to understand that artistry, whether in the visual or performing arts, creative writing, or any other form of artistic expression, is just one aspect of creativity. Creativity is not confined to artistry; it is a much broader concept. In fact, if you are sitting in a room and looking around, almost everything you see has been 'created' to some extent by humans. This underscores the ubiquity of creativity in our personal and business lives, whether it's the nuts and bolts of making stuff, planning, strategy development, or solving a problem. All these activities involve a creative process. However, although creativity is not limited to artistry, some sort of artistic practice can be a helpful stepping stone to exercising your creative thinking. The brain doesn't know the difference between whether your creativity is being applied to an artistic endeavour or a business issue and whether it is being rewired whether you are doing either or both. Tomorrow, I will post about the other way that creativity is misunderstood: it is seen as relative. If I compare myself to someone highly creative, I mistakenly diminish my creativity. #creativity #creativethinking #art #creativestrategy Chris Meredith Scott James
