How will Alibaba Cloud's latest AI innovations reshape the global tech landscape? The Chinese tech giant has just released over 100 open-source large language models in its Qwen 2.5 series, supporting 29+ languages. Eddie Wu, CEO of Alibaba Cloud Intelligence, hints at the scale of this ambition: "We aim to establish an AI infrastructure of the future to serve our global customers and unlock their business potential." But Alibaba Cloud isn't stopping at language models. The company has also unveiled a new text-to-video model and updated its vision language model, Qwen2-VL, which can comprehend 20-minute videos. To support these AI capabilities, the firm has introduced infrastructure upgrades like the CUBE DC 5.0 data centre architecture, which "reduces deployment times by up to 50% compared to traditional data centre builds." Alibaba Cloud sees 6% revenue growth driven by AI adoption Driven by AI technology, Alibaba Group has reported a 6% year-over-year (YoY) increase in its cloud business revenue for the quarter ending June 30, reaching RMB 26.5 billion ($3.65 billion). This growth marks the segment’s strongest performance since the September 2022 quarter, signalling a potential turnaround after several periods of single-digit growth. Despite the competitive global market, Alibaba Cloud’s AI offerings saw triple-digit growth, with its AI platform user base expanding by over 200% quarter-over-quarter. The company’s strategy of deeply integrating AI capabilities into its cloud infrastructure is gaining traction as more enterprise customers adopt Alibaba Cloud for AI development and deployment. In an earnings call recently, Alibaba Group CEO Eddie Wu highlighted the pivotal role of AI in driving this growth. “AI-related product revenue sustained triple-digit growth, continuing to increase its share of public cloud revenue,” Wu stated.
