While we can resolve most issues in the office, it is sometimes necessary to visit the site. This could involve meeting with all stakeholders to quickly determine a good path forward or inspecting the situation on the vessel, as conditions may differ significantly from the provided drawings or in cases where drawings are missing. By going on-site, a lot of time can be saved as the actual situation becomes immediately clear, allowing the as-built condition to be used for further project execution. Additionally, on-site experience is very beneficial for engineers, enabling them to develop the most practical solutions. Given the complexity of today's industrial systems, we must transition from the entrenched construction-led (left to right) delivery model to a systems-based, outcomes-driven approach. The solution is straightforward but requires a top-down change in mindset and the guiding hand of the ICxA Global Commissioning Standard.
Technical Project Manager | Electrical Engineer | Commissioning Manager | I help deliver complex capital projects
Plan projects from right to left - seems simple in concept, but difficult in reality: - Start with your project in-service date - Plan commissioning to meet your in-service date - Plan construction to meet deliverables to commissioning - Plan design to meet construction deliverables This is the only way to meet project timelines, and it's very possible to plan projects this way. Yet nobody does it... Be sure to follow the Industrial Commissioning Association to continue to receive commissioning content. #commissioning

10 steps to a successful M&E installation project From our experience of assisting installation contractors here's our list of 10 steps to a successful M&E installation project: 1. Plan ahead – What is your aim? What is the client's aim? 2. Understand the project brief – Has this been agreed with the client? What temperatures are to be achieved? Where is water needed? Where will wastewater drain to? Use Room Data Sheets to consolidate all M&E details for each room. 3. Consider time – What is the deadline? Are there any daily time constraints? What are the penalties for late delivery? 4. Consider quality – What tests must be passed before handover? Do we need a commissioning engineer? 5. Consider finances – What is the invoicing strategy? When are the milestones and are they clearly identified? 6. Consider logistics – Can we store equipment on site? What has to be stored inside? 7. Consider the end user – How will the space be used? What systems need to be controlled by the end-user and how? 8. Consider co-ordination – What other agencies are involved? Are there long lead times for access, RAMS sign-off, etc? 9. Consider personnel/ the team – What skills are my team lacking? Do I need to bring in other skills? 10. Consider the potential problems – What could go wrong? What is another contractor is late? Do I have alternative plans to all the risks I’ve identified?

🌍 Inspection Test Records and Underground Services: Ensuring Full Project Transparency 🛠️ When it comes to managing underground services in construction, transparency and accountability are key to a project's success. At AKN Engineering Ltd, we leverage Inspection Test Records (ITRs) to document every inspection, ensuring that no details are missed—whether we’re working with utilities, drainage, or cabling systems. Our latest blog covers: ✅ How ITRs help avoid costly delays and safety risks ✅ The importance of detailed records in complex projects ✅ How we ensure underground utilities are installed to precise specifications ✅ Why traceability and documentation provide peace of mind for contractors and project managers Underground services might be hidden from view, but with comprehensive ITRs, every step is visible, accountable, and ready for review. 📖 https://lnkd.in/emgSs87C #ConstructionTransparency #ITRs #UndergroundServices #HighwaysProjects #QualityAssurance #AKNEngineering #ProjectManagement #SiteEngineering #HighwaysEngineers #LandSurveys #ConstructionBlog

I wrote a paper on Brown Field Projects over a decade ago, highlighting persistent challenges in their execution that still prevail today. One major obstacle in brownfield engineering is the lack of regular updates to drawings by proponents. This leads to a significant amount of data verification in the field which is a time-consuming activity. Moreover, proponents often rely on EPC contractors to address existing issues within the project scope, leading to change orders and delays in project schedules. #BrownFieldProjects #EngineeringChallenges
