UPDATE: I am pleased to learn that these works include the installation of a wombat crossing (raised priority pedestrian/cycling path) across the entry. Now that is an upgrade. WHOSE SAFETY DO WE PRIORITISE? Looks like some disappointing "upgrades" are coming to the access point of a car park that crosses the bike path of my daily commute. The current tight corners require motorist to slow right down to enter or exit. This improves drivers chances of spotting a cyclist and reduces both the likelihood and impact of a collision. The marked out design deploys large sweeping kerbs increasing the width of the crossing for cyclist and allowing vehicles to make the turn at higher speed. The change will likely improve safety for motorist, reducing their chance of being rear ended by a careless driver, but at a cost to the safety of cyclist. So whose safety do we prioritise? As I become more involved in the industrial warehouse market, I find the Yard truck/Yard Goat to be a fascinating vehicle. It could be a little too early for a mass migration of entire shipping fleets to be converted to electric vehicles. However, the yard goat is the perfect use case for electric vehicles. I wonder if developers and builders in the warehouse space outside CA are starting to think about future-proofing their buildings with charging solutions.
