Today one of our most important partners Aalto University posted a story about our family foundation Saastamoinen Foundation. We work actively to promote science and art internationally. Each of us has different work backgrounds within the foundation, which supports the bigger picture. 𝐈𝐬 𝐎𝐬𝐥𝐨 𝐂𝐢𝐭𝐲?...𝘐 𝘸𝘰𝘶𝘭𝘥 𝘯𝘰𝘵 𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘦 𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘦 𝘵𝘰 𝘣𝘦 𝘩𝘰𝘯𝘦𝘴𝘵..." This is the new campaign of VisitOSLO.. or should I call it it anti-campaign, anti-adverstisment? In this part of the Denmark (Jutland), when people want to say that something is good they just say 'it is not so bad', and if something is 'great'... it's probably not. The ad could not be a better mirror of Nordic humor and mentality. It has a hidden statement that this not like all the other cities, that always brag. This is a special city, you can just meet e.g. the Prime Minister or the King. Notice also, how smallness, equality, convenience and hygge are all interwoven. ...But if you remove the irony (saying the opposite) from it, you end up with the same bragging... Oslo has a lot of amazing things to offer... you just can cannot say it that way. The question is, would potential visitors get it? #oslo #nordic #irony

The leaders in #futurism such as Alvin Toffler, Buckminster Fuller and Arthur C. Clarke, were science fiction writers, filmmakers, scientists, and designers, and America embraced futuristic thinking in its entrepreneurial ethos. In Europe, there has long been more emphasis on perfection (Germany!) efficiency, risk avoidance (#Switzerland !), and enjoying life-as-it-is (La Dolce Vita - Italy!) rather than inventing something completely new, and rocking the boat. Europeans sometimes tend to value the past and preserve it under any circumstance - some people have even remarked that #europe is more like a museum while America is more like a playground. But recently, there is a growing recognition in Europe that we need to embrace the future and take more risks; recognizing that you either make the future, or someone else makes it for you! As I like to say, science fiction is increasingly becoming science fact. The pace of change is accelerating, with developments such as self-driving cars and vertical farms already a reality. It is therefore crucial for Europe to recognize this and adapt its MINDSET! Our Mindset contains our Future.

And that's a wrap on our first Political Innovation Workshop, in partnership with the Kvarken Council EGTC and Mälardalsrådet. 🎉 In this initiative, we're developing a guide that demonstrates how we, as megaregions, are political innovators. Our opening workshop in Copenhagen was a productive start to our collaboration and a great opportunity to connect and share ideas with our peers from Sweden and Finland. Political Innovation marks the foundation of STRING's work. As a concept with diverse interpretations political innovation is hard to illustrate without real-world examples, marking this guide's value. It's designed to do more than just define the impact of our work; it will also map out the strategies and tools that drive our success. It was great to have you here in Copenhagen, Mathias Lindström, Johanna Häggman, Maria Nimvik Stern and Johan Hjelm.
