Based in Malang, Agroniaga Indonesia Sejahtera our Changemaker from CCE 3.0 began their business as a coffee plantation focused on producing high-quality coffee beans. But as the business grew, so did the waste. Tons of coffee by products were left behind, and that’s when Agroniaga saw an opportunity to transform waste into value. They set out to repurpose every part of the coffee bean in a way that benefits both the environment and their business embracing a zero-waste By using coffee husks, they create leather-like sheets that are crafted into bags and wallets, while coffee grounds are processed into durable boards used for sunglasses and watches. Even the “silver skin” of the coffee bean finds a purpose as Coffee Peat, an eco-friendly planting medium perfect for sustainable agriculture. Agroniaga’s innovative approach does more than reduce waste but also boosts the productivity and competitiveness of Indonesian agriculture while showing that sustainability can be profitable. This circular model is a true inspiration, encouraging young people to see that with a little creativity, challenges can lead to impactful solutions. Curious to hear more? [Towards Circular Agriculture in Indonesia by 2030] 🚜 As a junior member at ShARE UI, I had the privilege of spearheading my inaugural project, focused on implementing circular economy principles within Indonesia's agriculture sector. Spanning 5 weeks from September to October 2023, I was tasked with addressing the pressing challenges faced by the agricultural industry in Indonesia. Through meticulous research and collaborative efforts, we aimed to pave the way for sustainable and efficient practices within this crucial sector. 🌍 Background With agriculture contributing to 70% of water pollution and 20% of greenhouse gas emissions in Indonesia, the need for change is evident. 🔍 Challenges 1️⃣ Low investment in R&D and awareness in circular agriculture practices 2️⃣ Inefficient energy and water consumption 3️⃣ Ineffective supply chain processes and high food waste. 💡 Solutions 1️⃣ Implementing a 4S-approach with strategic partnerships with the private sector 2️⃣ Launching a Strategic Roadmap for Sustainable Agriculture 3️⃣ Conducting a Strategic Local Farmers Campaign 4️⃣ Introducing a Strategic Food Waste Reduction System. 📈 Impact Projected By 2050, our project aims to reduce the emission contribution of the agricultural sector by 49% and increase GDP contribution by up to 4.5%. #DoWellDoGood #circulareconomy #agriculture

☕ ☕ Today, at the Indonesia International Sustainability Forum 2024, Jeremy Oppenheim offers us two different cups of coffee: the coffee most of us are drinking, and the coffee of opportunity. For every tonne of coffee the world produces, it produces 20 tonnes of CO2 - 5 from processing, and 15 from degradation of nature. Less than 15% of the value of this global industry reaches the farmers. Can we get to a point where all 3bn cups of coffee we consume across the world are people- and nature-positive? Where we limit chemical inputs, build supplies of coffee on agroforestry principles, and ensure that communities are actively involved not just in production but in ownership? There is a huge opportunity in investing effectively in good disruptions in the value chain, and in developing regenerative supplies of high quality coffee that are nature positive by design Northern Sumatra is one of the places where these ideas can grow. Overall in Indonesia, the country can create at least a $25bn opportunity in coffee: it can be an industry superpower on regenerative principles. The opportunity for Indonesia is to create value chains – for coffee, and cocoa, and arenga… – that create wealth for communities, and where people are the solution. A big thank you to Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KADIN) and Coordinating Ministry for Maritime and Investment Affairs Republic of Indonesia for convening this important conversation #naturebasedsolutions #naturalsolutions #agroforestry #regenerativeagriculture #coffee #regeneration #conservation

In celebration of International Coffee Day, Afifa Urfani represented Pandawa Agri Indonesia at a collaborative discussion with SCOPI Indonesia in Strengthening Coffee Collaboration in Indonesia. During the session, Afifa Urfani emphasized that the primary challenge for smallholders in adopting sustainable agriculture is the difficulty in accessing the right information to meet farm's needs and understanding how to begin. Through our PPAI technology in Pagar Alam, we assist coffee smalholders in adopting sustainable agriculture practices by reducing their reliance on chemical inputs. We support them in cultivating coffee and provide information to ensure they are fully aware of what they use in the growing process. Ultimately, PPAI Technology serves as a solution for smallholder coffee producers, enabling them to achieve the highest quality and yields in their coffee production while maintaining environmental health.

8️⃣ Eight 8️⃣ Key Takeaways from the Cocotech: A Call to Action for the Industry 🌴 The recent Cocotech conference in Surabaya, Indonesia convened government and industry leaders to address the pressing challenges and opportunities facing the global coconut sector. Here are 8️⃣ key takeaways that will shape the industry's future: 1🥥Soaring demand, the world needs more coconuts. The world's appetite for coconuts is rapidly increasing, driven by growing food and oleochemical needs, increased use in biofuels, and emerging markets like sustainable aviation fuel. 2🥥Farmer Crisis: The conference highlighted the critical situation facing coconut farmers. Aging trees, limited access to financing, and declining yields are deterring the next generation from farming. 3🥥Dwarf and hybrid coconut varieties hold the key. These high-yielding and resilient varieties offer a pathway to increased production and make planting more economically viable. However, successful implementation requires substantial public and private investment in research, development, and farmer training. 4🥥Indonesia announced a future support plan for replanting of coconut, The president of Indonesia came in person to announce his support in the development of the new programme the Philippines confirmed that their replanting programme is underway. 5🥥Accelerated Replanting and Seed Garden Development: Experts emphasized the need for swift and well-planned replanting initiatives supported by robust seed garden infrastructure otherwise efforts could be low yielding. 6🥥Farmers need support. Guaranteeing fair prices and stable markets is essential to improve their livelihoods and drive investment. 7🥥Verified sustainable supply chains are powerful tools, but they face scale up challenges. We must work together to adapt certifications to the farmers and not the other way around. Our upcoming assurance system will be a good complement for early stage supply chains to complement existing certifications 8🥥 Collective action is vital. The coconut industry needs stronger market tools, increased private investment, and public support to thrive. The event has underscored the urgency of addressing the challenges facing the coconut sector. The Sustainable Coconut Partnership is committed to working with stakeholders to implement these recommendations and create a thriving, equitable, and sustainable industry. Let’s work together to build a sustainable coconut future. #sustainablecoconut #coconutindustry #supplychain #farmers #sustainability #ethicalsupplychains #investments #conference #calltoaction

What I really love about procurement is that it forces you to keep an eye on what’s happening around the world. If you want to see ripple effect in action than you may want to have a sneak peak in life of procurement managers :) Here are few interesting global developments taking place in food industries which have the potential to change how we procure. 1. EU Deforestation Regulation Delay The European Union has proposed delaying the enforcement of a new deforestation law, originally set to take effect on December 30, 2024. This regulation requires companies importing key agricultural products—such as cattle, coffee, cocoa, and soy—into the EU to verify that their supply chains do not contribute to deforestation. The proposed delay introduces uncertainty for businesses and producers, particularly small-scale farmers who may face challenges in compliance due to high costs and limited infrastructure. If approved, the enforcement would be postponed to December 2025 for large operators and June 2026 for small enterprises. 2. Indonesia’s Free Meal Program Indonesia’s president-elect, Prabowo Subianto, plans to implement a $28 billion free meal program targeting over 80 million schoolchildren and expectant mothers. Aimed at improving nutrition and combating stunting, this initiative is expected to significantly increase dairy consumption. Given that Indonesia’s domestic dairy production meets only 16% of its demand, the program is likely to boost dairy imports, particularly from countries like New Zealand and Australia. This surge in demand may affect global dairy supply chains and pricing. 3. Sustainability Initiatives by Major Corporations Companies like PepsiCo are intensifying efforts to reduce Scope 3 emissions—those generated by their supply chains. The company aims for a 40% reduction in supply chain emissions by 2030, implementing initiatives such as the Sustainability Action Center and regenerative farming programs. These efforts may influence procurement practices, encouraging suppliers to adopt more sustainable methods. Do you know any other global trend which might be carving the new methods to procure? #procurement #globaltrends #food #supplychain
