It is great connecting with fellow industry professionals at the NW Hort Expo in Yakima! 🍎 Pacific Biocontrol presented a helpful overview of the distinctions between Codling Moth and Oriental Fruit Moth. A video summary by Peter McGhee, Pacific Biocontrol president and entomologist, below. Erica Moretti’s, USDA entomologist, presentation on biocontrol best practices was also a highlight. Biocontrol, along with pheromones, play a crucial role in integrated pest management for orchards. #NWHortExpo #PacificBiocontrol #CodlingMoth #OrientalFruitMoth #Biocontrol #IPM #PestManagement #Entomology

Just published - Pathogen of the Month. Finding a read? Here it is. We wrote a fact sheet about Phytophthora parvispora, a new pathogen causing gummosis and root rot in citrus, in the latest issue of Pathogen of the Month (POTM, December 2023) - Australasian Plant Pathology Society. Although Phytophthora parvispora has been reported for the first time in Vietnam and South-East Asia, they have not been reported widely, especially in Australia, as the causative agent of gummosis and root rot in citrus. We believe that this fact sheet would be useful to the plant pathology community in Australia, especially for those working with tropical fruit and citrus trees. 🌿 New Biopesticides for Spotted-Wing Drosophila Management! 🌿 Dr. Julianna Wilson, Assistant Professor of Tree Fruit Entomology at MSU, has received a USDA grant to develop yeast-based biopesticides targeting the invasive spotted-wing drosophila (SWD), which impacts cherry and berry crops. Using RNA interference technology, her research aims to create eco-friendly alternatives to traditional insecticides, potentially lowering costs and environmental impact for farmers.
