I believe that most people that work in health policy do it because they want to make healthcare systems work better for the people they serve. But there are many steps between policymakers and people. Much of the discourse is appropriately focused on what quantitative data can tell us - the "what" of what is happening. What the costs are, what the outcomes are, what utilization patterns look like, what the relationship is between some of these variables - the list goes on. But what is often missing, is how policy and systems impact those very people that policymakers devoted their careers to serving. How do they interact with these systems - is it different than the touch points that policy intended? How do these policies impact other facets of their lives? Their overall well-being? And what do people really need or want? How can that - in turn - be used in conjunction with quantitative datasets to inform policy? From small incremental changes to reduce complexity to more robust reforms that ensure people have access to services. Our partnership with Public Policy Lab hopes to bring policymakers and people closer together, in service to supporting more informed, more relevant, and more responsible policy decisions. #olderadults #medicare #medicaid #ltss

Election season reminds us all of the critical importance of letting our voices be heard. Now more than ever, decision makers must know what adult literacy providers need and also how much adult literacy benefits the community. For instance, Harris County's economy could grow by $13 billion if adults with the lowest levels of literacy competency increased their literacy skills by just one level! That's why Literacy Texas is asking YOU to complete this short survey by JULY 31ST. https://lnkd.in/gPpUynJQ

Obtaining the views of vulnerable populations is vital to the completion of any meaningful evaluation. In his latest blog, my colleague Jack Cattell draws on his experience from the evaluation of the Youth Justice Reform Progamme to identify the keys to the successful formulation, design, and execution of a survey of vulnerable children. In his blog Jack identifies the four keys to success: collaborating with the target group, identifying the appropriate questions, professionally designing the questionnaire, and safeguarding the respondents. If you are interested in good survey design, Jack's blog is a must-read >> https://lnkd.in/e5DfxcUJ #YouthJustice #JuvenileJustice #SurveyDesign

Today is World Children's Day and celebrates the next generation by addressing the real issues children face from bullying to child labor and inadequate access to education and basic healthcare. It is a day dedicated to the welfare, rights, and the very future of children around the world. This year's theme is "Voices of the Future." At the heart of our work, we remember we need to continue to educate children. All children. We need to learn from our history. All of our histories. An we must teach the next generation to use their voices and speak up when they know something is wrong. This is about all of us! This is about our collective future. Read the "State of the World's Children Report 2024 "and learn how to start a conversation about digital media, climate change, and even war with kids here: https://lnkd.in/gz8Gva2
