How do we achieve net zero by 2050? Is it better to work toward carbon reduction, or is using carbon removal methods enough? There is an ongoing debate between carbon removal and reduction methods to reduce emissions and meet the net zero goal. Both have their advantages and disadvantages but what do they actually involve, and how are they implemented? The SBTi’s BVCM represents a call to action for all organisations to make tangible and meaningful climate mitigation contributions. Anthesis Group is here to help companies truly drive impact through a multi-pronged approach: 1. Develop and disclose a comprehensive greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions report using a digital calculation platform (Anthesis’ RouteZero for example) 2. Establish and actively pursue a ‘net-zero’ emissions reduction target 3. Invest in high-quality carbon credits which ‘cover’ at least 50% of unabated scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions 4. Use a science-based carbon price to bridge the link between decarbonisation targets and strategic decision-making 5. Consider developing a climate certification plan either organisationally or at product level to support reduction commitments Reach out to learn more on our BVCM services #carboncredits #climatechangesolutions #scope3

While the Science Based Targets initiative reports may have been a letdown for those in the climate credit space, there is some joy in seeing some of our forecasted outcomes coming to life so quickly. Also, it is important to not lose sight of the ongoing efforts for high-integrity climate action. Just yesterday, the The Integrity Council for the Voluntary Carbon Market (ICVCM) rejected methodologies covering renewables for #CCP-eligibility over additionality concerns. A challenging decision, especially since renewable energy offset credits dominate the open volumes in the VCM. However, it was necessary to ensure funding goes to environmental projects that truly need support. Interestingly, this is another prediction from our forecast model that came true! A big thanks to Harry Horner & Urvashi Thakur for seamlessly integrating me into the carbon credit space and for the work we accomplished together in building a robust offset forecast model. Predicting the future of the VCM is no easy feat.
🚨 New Article Alert! 🚨 The latest Science Based Targets initiative reports have sparked major discussions within the Voluntary Carbon Market (VCM). Our new article examines the content and implications of these reports, the ongoing challenges and opportunities they present. and the future directions for corporate climate strategies. The SBTi’s reports have been criticized for their extensive length and inconclusive findings, frustrating VCM stakeholders. The ongoing ambiguity within the SBTi's guidance raises concerns about its relevance in leading corporate decarbonization efforts, especially with final guidance delayed until 2025. Despite these challenges, Analyst Tanay Sawhney explores potential future scenarios for the VCM, including the "Built on Compliance Foundations" scenario where offsets are integrated into regulated carbon pricing mechanisms, and the "Transition to Removals" scenario focusing on carbon dioxide removal (CDR) technologies. As the landscape evolves, clear and decisive guidance will be crucial to harness the full potential of carbon credits and drive meaningful corporate climate action. 🔗 https://lnkd.in/d649cGir #ClimateAction #CarbonMarkets #Sustainability #CorporateResponsibility #NetZero #VCM #SBTi #CDR

🌍 Even if every organization achieves net-zero by 2050, carbon removal is still essential. 🌍 According to the IPCC, limiting global warming to 1.5°C requires removing around 6 gigatons (!!) (GtCO2) of carbon dioxide annually by 2050. Today, only 2 GtCO2 is being removed each year, primarily through natural methods like forests and oceans. But with global temperatures rising faster than ever, we need to scale up carbon removal solutions urgently. At Catch23, we're dedicated to driving this transition by offering certified carbon removal solutions that help organizations and individuals contribute to this critical goal. 🌱 Additionally, Science-Based Targets is currently revising its standards to ensure companies follow scientifically credible carbon removal and storage practices, aligning with the IPCC's insights. You can read more about it here: https://lnkd.in/e4qnu_hE The time to act is now—let's remove carbon and build a sustainable future together. #Decarbonization #CarbonRemoval #NetZero #ClimateAction #Sustainability #Catch23

Carbon dioxide removal (CDR) is a critical tool in the fight against climate change. These technologies—many of which are still in development and need our support— have the potential to rebalance our carbon budget and mitigate the most adverse effects of climate change. But as we’ve seen with the scandals that have plagued the traditional voluntary carbon markets (VCMs), not all carbon credits are created equal. It's important to have standards in place to ensure that carbon removal projects are of high quality and deliver their promised impact, in order to avoid the same shortcomings as traditional VCM projects: https://hubs.la/Q02Q_n370 #CDR #climatechange #carbonremoval #netzero

Carbon allowances are an immediate bridge to carbon reduction, but not a long-term solution. Companies, individuals, and governments cannot truly prevent more severe climate change without changing their carbon behavior and/or developing technologies that lower the total amount of carbon in the atmosphere. For an enduring impact, we believe that carbon dioxide removal (CDR) strategies hold the key. Learn more about CDR and the three pathways we consider for our annual RFP program on the Climate Vault blog: https://hubs.la/Q02q9Gsq0 #VaultIt #Decarbonization #ClimateAction #CDR

✍️ Check out our NEW report on Carbon Capture and Storage! 🔹 Setting a foundation for carbon capture and storage (CSS) in product life cycle assessment This report highlights the key questions that must be addressed to provide a common basis for guidelines to measure and report CCS at the product level, and the stakeholders that could carry work on CSS forward. It considers the critical role that CCS plays in industrial decarbonization, and the need manufacturers have to demonstrate the green credentials of their products. The report was developed with support from UNIDO and the Industrial Deep Decarbonization Initiative (#IDDI). 🔗 https://lnkd.in/eUt5WWgS #COP29 #climateaction #CCS #carboncapture #decarbonization Clean Energy Ministerial, Climate Group, Mission Possible Partnership, World Economic Forum
