The PostgreSQL Connection Service File pg_service.conf has existed for quite some time and maybe you have already used it sometimes. We love it, and that is why we built the new QGIS plugin PG service parser #QGIS plugin. You probably don't need a vector database. Postgres is still all you need My recent blog post spurred some interesting discussions around databases on HN and Reddit 🐘 Read about working with vector embeddings in Postgres, the launch of pgvectorscale and benefits of colocating data. If you're working with vector embeddings or considering using a vector database, this post is for you. Link to full post in comments 👇 Let me know what you think #postgres

Using DuckDB to read parquet files and loading these into #postgres works surprisingly well. It’s possible to connect to Postgres db from DuckDB with one line of code. However, if you work with geo data the DuckDB spatial extension is not compatible with the Postgres gis extension. This means we can’t save geometry type data directly to Postgres from DuckDB. Alternatively save the geo data as WKT and in Postgres update the table by converting to geometry. #dataengineering

Postgres is quickly becoming the most loved database by developers, so it makes sense that developers would turn to #pgvector to build #RAG applications. Timescale Vector brings blazing fast performance and easy management to the picture.
Avoiding the hassle of dealing with multiple databases is a huge reason why developers choose Postgres and pgvector for building RAG applications. I've seen this first hand at Timescale and Johannes J. explains just that in the video below, excerpted from his tutorial on using Vector search and SQL for RAG (full tutorial in comments). #pgvector #rag #vectordatabase #aiengineer

Thinking minimalistically is common among both beginners and experts. They often choose Postgres as a vector database instead of a more complex dedicated one.
