November Snapshot: A lull for in truck movement after the festive season rush This November, the logistics landscape saw some challenges: With a ban on pollution-causing BS4 vehicles entering the National Capital Region, fewer BS6 and CNG trucks pushed rentals higher. Fleet occupancy dropped to 60%. Maharashtra polls impacted logistics activity in the region. Weaker urban consumption & inflation further dampened activity and movement across sectors. However, two-wheelers and agri-components bucked the trend, showing growth amid an otherwise sluggish performance. 📊 These insights and more are covered in the December edition of the Shriram Mobility Bulletin by Shriram Finance Limited. With a positive outlook ahead of the festive season, fleet utilization levels have surged to 90%, driving increased goods movement across the country. This edition of Shriram Mobility Bulletin by Shriram Finance Limited, showcases an uptick in transportation activity across key routes in the country. However, truck owners are sounding the alarm on rising tyre prices and toll rates and an immiment increase in freight prices. In a contrasting trend, EV sales dipped in September, as the Electric Mobility Promotion Scheme (EMPS) 2024 has yet to meet buyer expectations. Toll collections have dropped in volume, but risen in value due to increase in toll rates across India While challenges remain, the upcoming festive season is expected to provide a significant boost for the transport and logistics sectors, especially for passenger vehicle sales. #shrirammobilitybulletin #shriramfinance #transportationindustry Umesh Revankar srinivasa yalamati

Following the success & impact of the first two editions of Shriram Mobility Bulletin, Shriram Finance Limited has come up with an enhanced version, covering a much wider scope! From June 2024, the mobility bulletin will cover petrol and diesel consumption, fastag collection, bulk and container traffic in ports, in addition to truck rentals and vehicle sales. Here are some highlights: Heat wave across India negatively affected the trucking industry. Fleet occupancy levels dropped to around 60% as drivers and loaders avoided working during the hottest part of the day. Tractor sales (agriculture) saw a 24% increase in May, indicating that farmers are preparing for a potentially good monsoon season. Fuel consumption and Fastag collections rose in May. This suggests an increase in travel activity, possibly due to holidays and recent election campaigns. Export-import activity at major Indian ports experienced a positive trend in May. The transportation of summer essentials like air conditioners, coolers, refrigerators, and fruits remained steady. However, public infrastructure projects witnessed a slowdown in activity. #shriram #shrirammobilitybulletin #mobility Umesh Revankar srinivasa yalamati

Centre Fast-Tracks Setting Up Of Multi-Modal Logistics Park In Pune The MMLP will act as a freight aggregation and disaggregation centre to enable freight movement in more efficient modes, such as higher-sized trucks and rail, thereby improving the efficiency of freight movement and reducing logistics costs. The 67th meeting of Network Planning Group took up for discussion three projects of the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways including the development of the Multi Modal Logistics Park (MMLP) at Pune in Maharashtra through Public Private Partnership mode on design, build, finance, operate and transfer (DBFOT) basis, the Commerce and Industry Ministry said on Wednesday. The MMLP will act as a freight aggregation and disaggregation centre to enable freight movement in more efficient modes, such as higher-sized trucks and rail, thereby improving the efficiency of freight movement and reducing logistics costs in the country. The second project pertains to widening the NH-334D section from Aligarh to Palwal to a 4-lane configuration. It aims to improve connectivity between Aligarh and Palwal districts, particularly benefiting traffic towards Jewar airport and providing better connectivity with the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway. The project encompasses major bridges, minor bridges, railway crossings, service roads, a toll plaza, truck lay bay, and various other features, to enhance the movement of freight and people. The third project involves construction of a four-lane elevated corridor on Anishabad – Aurangabad – Hariharganj Road in Bihar. This project on NH-139 aims to alleviate traffic congestion on the existing 4-lane road connecting Patna city’s key areas, including the AIIMS. The proposed elevated corridor, spanning 9-km includes a flyover of 8.3 km, features a 4-lane at-grade road with footpath, drain, and utility corridor, ensuring uninterrupted traffic flow. The focus of the discussions at the meeting, headed by the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade, Additional Secretary, Rajeev Singh Thakur, revolved around integrated planning of network infrastructure aligned with the principles of PM GatiShakti for comprehensive regional socio-economic advancement.#gatishakti

Truck rentals dip in Nov. after festive rush, says a report. Truck rentals, which had returned to normal levels in October 2024 after the festive season rush, declined in November 2024 across most trunk routes due to softened demand for transportation services, according tothe Shriram Mobility report by the Shriram Group. Truck rental rates (round trips) on key trunk routes like Delhi-Chennai-Delhi and Delhi-Bengaluru-Delhi declined by 1.4 per cent and 1 per cent respectively on a month-on-month (M-o-M) basis, stated the Shriram Mobility report by the Shriram Group. Fleet occupancy levels dropped to around 60 per cent in November 2024 on a M-o-M basis. This decline was attributed to weak urban demand across categories, the Bharat Stage IV (BS IV) truck ban in the National Capital Region (NCR) due to air pollution, polling activities in Maharashtra, and reduced movement of agricultural produce, as per a report.
