What’s driving unrest in the US and Latin America? ACLED’s latest monthly overviews break it down. From surging protests at the Democratic National Convention in Chicago to violent land disputes in Brazil, our reports unpack the most critical conflict dynamics: ▪ In the #US, protest activity doubled during the DNC, spotlighting reproductive and immigration rights but also revealing fractures over party policies on Palestine and Israel. How are these tensions shaping the political climate? ▪ In #Brazil, clashes over land rights in Mato Grosso do Sul turned deadly as Indigenous communities and farmers faced off. Could this trigger a broader crisis over Indigenous land claims? Get the full picture: https://lnkd.in/g8WNMW5Y

📰 New Open Access Article by Ana Lopez Garcia: "Migrant Money and Political Unrest: Remittances and Support for Protest in Latin America and the Caribbean" 🌍💸 Can money from abroad fuel political unrest in migrant-sending democracies? 🤔 Ana Lopez Garcia's research shows that remittance recipients are as likely as non-recipients to support peaceful and lawful protests. However, they are more approving of citizens resorting to unlawful and violent protest behaviour. Statistical analysis reveals that support for violent protest among recipients is linked to their dissatisfaction with political parties and politicians. Discover how migrant resources shape political participation in developing democracies. 💭 Read the full article here! https://lnkd.in/eN8Zc_PB #PoliticalScience #Remittances #LatinAmerica #Caribbean #SocialUnrest #OpenAccessResearch

500+ Jewish clergy agree: it's time for real action and real solutions. In an election season defined by xenophobia, fear, and lies, we stand firmly in solidarity with refugees and asylum seekers and advocate for their rights and safety. This looks like: 👉 Investing in our asylum system by increasing staffing 👉Repealing harmful policies that deny the right to asylum 👉Quicker access to work permits for people seeking asylum in the U.S. 👉Extending and reauthorizing the Lautenberg Amendment to allow religious minorities to reunite with their loved ones, and more Read our full letter: https://lnkd.in/evXTngbu

YES LIZ! We NEED to put a stop to this. Not only is it putting our people in danger now, but its instilling generational trauma. there are CHILDREN. CHILDREN are being indoctrinated to spew racist hate that they dont even understand, CHILDREN are learning that because they are different the world is not safe for them. CHILDREN are growing up in an England that doesn't do enough to help them. why are children being put in danger, why are libraries being burnt down. why do we think its ok for these young people to suffer in a fight they cannot comprehend. why are we letting this slide. sign the petition, if not for your safety, for the next generations. End this racist rhetoric. End these racist riots. Let people be free, regardless of the colour of their skin.

How EU is constantly violating human rights and has thrown basic humanity over board in the last years. This report is a must read!
In anticipation of #WorldRefugeeDay tomorrow, we are excited to launch our new report ‘Humanity Overboard’! The extensive report shows how the #EU is obstructing search and rescue in the #Mediterranean, and depriving refugees of their human rights. It analyses all of Humanity 1’s rescue operations between September 2022 and March 2024 in a legal and political framework, showing how human rights and basic humanity have been thrown overboard. We also showcase testimonies and feedback from survivors themselves, including a survey carried out on board shedding light on how and why people flee across the Mediterranean. The racist, anti-immigrant rhetoric and violence we are witnessing right now is beyond unthinkable. Refugees, migrants and asylum seekers are welcome in the UK. Racism however and wherever it shows itself is despicable. At MHFA England® we stand together against hate. A question we must all ask ourselves is this: what can we do day in day out to make sure everyone knows we stand against hate whenever and however it shows itself in political discourse, public narratives and in every day interactions. Love and solidarity.
