I thought I'd made the biggest mistake of my career. Let me explain. 🚮 10 years ago, I left everything behind. 💼 A well-paid job. ⚖️ A promising career. 🎓 Legal qualifications. I moved to the UK with hopes of something bigger, but all I had were unclear prospects and a constant fear that it wouldn’t work out. I had to start over. While my peers in Moscow were getting promoted, I was back in law school, starting from scratch. At first, it felt like a step backwards. But then I was offered a training contract at a top international law firm. It should have been a proud moment. It should have been the answer to all my doubts. But instead, it was the start of a deeper internal struggle. ⬇️ I lost my confidence. ⬇️ I lost my voice. ⬇️ I lost my sense of who I was. Why⁉️ I was scared I made a mistake. That it was all in vain. That it was taking too long. 💔 𝗔𝗻𝘅𝗶𝗲𝘁𝘆 and 𝗹𝗼𝗻𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀 became my constant companions. The next few years were a blur of rebuilding. It took time to rediscover my confidence, to rebuild my identity. And to finally say, with pride: I’m a lawyer. Twice over. Or, as I like to say now: 𝗜’𝗺 𝗠𝗢𝗥𝗘 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝗻 𝗮 𝗹𝗮𝘄𝘆𝗲𝗿. Looking back, I realise two things: 1. It was hard. 2. It was worth it. Why? Because through it all, I learned that anything is possible if you put your heart and soul into it. To anyone considering a big change, taking a leap, know this: ❗It’s 𝗻𝗼𝘁 going to be easy. ❗It might 𝗻𝗼𝘁 even go according to plan. ❗But you’ll come out of it stronger, braver. ❗More 𝗬𝗢𝗨 than you ever imagined. 𝗗𝗼𝗻’𝘁 𝗯𝗲 𝗮𝗳𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗱 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘂𝗻𝗸𝗻𝗼𝘄𝗻. 𝗘𝗺𝗯𝗿𝗮𝗰𝗲 𝗶𝘁. You’ll thank yourself later. Wouldn’t you agree?

Such a fun picture Olga Dementyeva 😁
I totally feel you that in some ways you lost confidence when you got a training contract. I can relate - when I got into Linklaters I was like, how did this happen to me?? I’m so glad you got over this hurdle and are raising awareness to help others who may feel the same!

Embracing the unknown and stepping outside of your comfort zone- this is where the magic happens Olga Dementyeva
What an inspiring story Olga Dementyeva 👏 When you're uncomfortable, this is when you grow
Love this Olga - it’s all about stepping out of the comfort zone and doing what truly lights you up!! Go you!!!
Thank you for sharing this! I can completely relate with your words (except I’m currently at the TC application stage). It takes so much confidence and self-assurance to trust that what is meant for you will come in time, but I do!
This is a powerful and inspiring story about resilience and perseverance. Your ability to overcome challenges and reinvent yourself is truly admirable. It's a reminder that setbacks can be opportunities for growth. Olga Dementyeva
Totally agree Olga Dementyeva. The actual process you went through and that you are now reflecting on is the lesson. Your mindset shift to get you where you now are is fantastic. Reading your story for me, is not about the amazing accomplishment of being a lawyer, it's the 'more than' because that what sets you apart as you meet your true self who is resilient, determined and inspiring (shortened list).
