What My Daughter's Journey to the AAU Junior Olympics Taught Me About Workplace Excellence This weekend, my 11-year-old daughter is headed to the AAU Junior Olympics in North Carolina. 🏅 She's been training tirelessly, putting in 10 hour days to prepare for this moment. Watching her dedication and commitment has been inspiring and has led me to reflect on how the lessons she's learned can be applied in the workplace. Dedication: Just as athletes commit to rigorous training schedules, employees who dedicate themselves to their roles bring about exceptional results. Consistent effort and perseverance are key to achieving our professional goals. 💃 Resilience: There are ups and downs in both sports and work. (I still remember my daughter's first competition when she got 3rd place and had a meltdown!) Learning to bounce back from setbacks, maintaining a positive attitude, and staying focused on long-term goals are essential for both athletes and professionals. 💪 Time Management: Balancing school, training, Girl Scouts and her personal life has taught my daughter the importance of managing her time effectively. In our careers, mastering time management helps us juggle multiple tasks and meet deadlines efficiently. ⌚ Goal Setting: Athletes set clear, achievable goals and work diligently towards them. The limits of instant gratification. The Olympics are over. What can we learn from them? One of the great things related to leading a company in 2024 is to be able to interact with the new generation: super smart, super digital, super well informed. I learn a lot!!! Together, we constantly adapt a common culture: https://lnkd.in/e3f_tv7u The main point of "discussion" is always around gratification. - My experience is that a high proportion of young people constantly expect positive feedback, which - according to me - sometimes limits their ability to dig very deep into a complex issue, long enough. - When I was 20 year old, I became a Golf Professional and learnt a different approach: the higher the pain now, the higher the reward later. Gratification sometimes never came, but frustration was a powerful driver, which always produced significant progress AND a self-confidence boost, the most precious asset of all! Long story short: - Surely, this is not just about generations. Just watch these young people excel at the Olympics: all records from my generation have been brocken! When I recruit new teammates, I always look for signs of passion and resilience: playing the piano very well, competing at regional level in any activity, painting very well, etc. - Passion turns work into a game. It is very difficult to work in a high performing environment - BIG4, GAFAM, Top restaurants - if you are not having fun. - I realised since founding 360Crossmedia in 2000 that our very strong culture is not for everyone, just like working in a three star restaurant will be the "best time of their lives" for some passionate cooks, and "hell on earth" for others. My biggest mistake over the years was to hire people who were clearly not compatible with our culture. Let's start working on something, it doesn't matter what. Let's do it long enough. At one stage, we will feel very proud. That is the ultimate gratification. Let's make it happen.

I was the youngest when I finished high school. I was the youngest when I started my bachelor. I was the youngest when I started my master. I was the youngest when I started playing in the first women’s hockey team. I was the youngest when I started at a big corporate. I was the youngest when I got promoted for the first time. I was the youngest at home. The youngest child deciding to move abroad. I was always the youngest. 😂 I always compared myself to people above my age. They had more experience, they were more successful. For me they had it all. I always wanted to be like them. Looked up to them. Now looking back at those times (and being one of the „elder“ ones now), I wish I would not have put myself under such pressure like I did back then. I always wanted more, faster, better and it could never be enough. Now nobody cares what age I had when I did my degree, bachelor or masters 😂 They care about the person I have become. And being the youngest certainly shaped me but if I was in the situation now, I would have told myself to slow down. Enjoy the moments, enjoy learning at your own pace, maybe even take a break and travel. Try things out. Because in the end rushing things can be contraproductive. If you really want to get somewhere (may it be a promotion, or moving countries, or whatever) make sure you get there in your own pace, without comparisons but making sure you become a better version of yourself. 🧡 What would you tell your younger self?

COLLEGE ATHLETES!! YOUR SKILLS ARE TRANSFERRABLE!!! It’s a common misconception that being a collegiate athlete is just that. Being an athlete! To an outside perspective, we run, kick, pass, swing, and shoot, but many do not realize that being is athlete is much more than that, and sometimes that person is ourselves. During your collegiate career, you build upon countless qualities that will allow you to bulldoze your way into establishing yourself into your professional career. Captain of your team? Shows leadership. Coordinated activities within your team? Shows event management skills and initiative. Spent 3-4 hours a day practicing? Shows determination and discipline. Played well at an event? Congrats! You are able to perform well under pressure. These are all examples of qualities that we can take with us into any career path of your choosing. As a former D1 golfer, this sport has engrained a mentality of prefectionism, self-discipline, and adaptability, all of which are qualities that I use in my daily routine in my role. It takes a lot of work to spend a full session practicing the same shot, play, kick, or pass. More than we give sometimes ourselves credit for! Every athlete's experience is unique. From the sport they play, to the position they hold, to the environment they're in, and even the coach they have, it all contributes to our journey. But one thing remains constant: graduation is not our expiration date. It's an opportunity to continue growing and evolving into the person you will become. Embrace the ideology that collegiate sports are a stepping stone, not a destination. The skills and values you've learned on the course or field will undoubtedly translate to success in all aspects of your life.
