Boosting #bilingualism with #AI power: Local edutech startup BrookieKids, co-founded by #NTUsg alumna Melissa Man Qi Ng, has launched a groundbreaking #Mandarin digital library powered by speech AI. Featuring over 50 voice-interactive stories, with new additions coming every month, the mobile application allows children aged 3 to 8 to engage in conversational Mandarin in a fun and interactive way. Developed in collaboration with the Confucius Institute at NTU, the BrookieKids digital library has many stories from the Institute’s preschool Mandarin curriculum, purchased by over 500 preschools in Singapore. "Our mission is to empower parents, teachers, and the community with innovative solutions that nurture joyful childhoods and inspire children to become lifelong learners and active contributors," said Melissa on the impetus behind developing the app. Melissa, who graduated with a Master of Education (Developmental Psychology) from NIE in 2020, was supported by the NTU Innovation and Entrepreneurship (I&E) initiative. NTU Vice President (Innovation and Entrepreneurship) Professor Louis Phee underscored the University's commitment to empowering start-ups like BrookieKids to succeed and create lasting impact: “We provide entrepreneurs with the tools and mentorship needed to scale their ventures responsibly, from business development to networking opportunities, including collaborations within NTU." BrookieKids can be downloaded on both the Apple Appstore and Google Playstore, and there is currently a seven-day free trial for first-time users. https://ntu.sg/BROOKIEKIDS #NTUsgAlumni #AIatNTUsg #Innovation #Technology #Entrepreneurship #MandarinLearning

1 year ago, I moved towards entrepreneurship, after being in the tech industry for a decade. It’s been a challenging and exciting journey, but I wouldn’t have it any other way. It was a well-thought-out decision. Before making the shift, I identified some gaps in the existing learning process that hampered the growth of students. Coming from a technical background, I figured this gap could be filled with the help of AI. With the zeal to improve the learning experience for school students and make teaching easy for teachers, I took the first step with Neo AI. We have been laser-focused on building an AI-focused platform that helps students strengthen their cognitive skills and learn some practical skills along with the curriculum. Ever since the beginning, our focus has consistently been on revolutionising the education industry and making kids ready for the unknown future. Planning to be active on LinkedIn now and let’s walk together on this journey of transforming education with Neo AI. #NeoAI #artificialintelligence #entrepreneurship

Another brilliant series of articles by Nic Newman and the team at Emerge. They examine the "trends and opportunities for innovation along each step of the learner journey → from discovery and enrolment to teaching and learning, from assessment to graduate employability." My own reflection is this... AI is only the latest expression - albeit potentially the most impactful, of a phenomenon we have come to know as "digital transformation". And just like digital transformation, #ai requires a vision at the institutional level, and a strategy to drive change. This can only be accomplished by a coordinating mechanism - a central unit that can craft an aspirational narrative, identify opportunities, pilot solutions, and build new human and technological capabilities. Those institutions that approach AI as "another add-on", implementing patch-work solutions sponsored by single individuals or discrete departments, will not be able to keep pace with AI´s much more fundamental impact on how students needs are served. #highereducation SEK Education Group

I had a wonderful session today with Paul Atherton of Fab Inc AI-for-Education.org regarding DAWN AI STUDY (VentureHue S24) and it was mind blowing. Africa’s education system is the worst performing globally, yet African EdTech ventures attract less than 2% of total venture financing in the region, compared to 8-12% in India. Despite Africa’s growing and youthful population, and the continent's increasing working-age population, selling EdTech in Africa remains challenging. Key note take away, from the recent report on EDtech solutions, it is here to stay, more investment should go in to EDtech, how best do we prepare for the future of work if not by making quality education truly inclusive and accessible by everyone. #edtech #futureofwork #ai #AIinedtech #dawnaistudy #victorogunbiyi #tech #education #learning

🌍 Transforming Education Through Innovation and Philanthropy As someone passionate about education and entrepreneurship, I believe the key to transformative change lies in creating scalable, impactful ventures that serve both local communities and the world. My journey, from founding Maple Bear Schools in Latin America to my current role with the Addquire Private Equity portfolio, with Silicon Valley innovation in education at its core, has shown me the importance of blending business acumen with a deep commitment to social good. At the core of my work is a simple yet profound mission: to make quality education accessible to all, especially in underserved areas. Through initiatives like the Nudelman Initiative (www.educall.org), we’re bringing advanced educational programs to small towns in Brazil, enhancing opportunities for young students through a combination of AI-powered tools, and teacher training. It’s exciting to be a part of this era where education meets technology, where philanthropy fuels growth, and where entrepreneurial models can create a lasting societal impact. 📌 Here’s what I’ve learned along the way: Innovation in Education Needs a Purpose: Technology in the classroom is only as good as its ability to help students achieve their best. Programs like the Digital Media Academy, which combines core skills with future-ready technology training, are helping set a new standard with The Leading STEAM Schools in The World program. Franchising Can be a Path to Scale with Integrity: Our franchised K-12 bilingual schools have thrived by aligning with the values and goals of each community, from local educational goals to globally relevant skills. Philanthropy Should Be Transformative, Not Transactional: We’re not just supporting; we’re building ecosystems where students, teachers, and schools thrive independently, cultivating a long-term vision for growth. If you’re interested in collaborating, let’s connect. I’d love to hear from fellow leaders, educators, and philanthropists on how we can continue to innovate and make an even greater impact. #EducationForAll #Philanthropy #EdTech #Entrepreneurship #BilingualEducation #AIInEducation #ImpactInvesting #FutureOfLearning

According to HolonIQ, "funding value (dollars) is down 90% from all-time highs and funding volume (count) is down more than 50% in almost all global markets." Will #AI save the day? My sense is there is not so much a need for more solutions, but rather the integration of these in service of a holistic idea about the way you teach, and the way students learn at your institution. After all, needs have not multiplied! Why should solutions? You just need to choose the best set. #highereducation SEK Education Group
EdTech VC collapse at $580M for Q1. Not even an AI tailwind could hold up this 10 year low.
