🌍 Exciting News: For the first in history the majority of the Danish building industry is calling on politicians to align legislation with science! Over 600 companies have united, demanding to get building legislation that reflect climate science to ensure we meet the Paris Accord 1,5 degree target. 👏 This is more than a win for the industry—it's a testament to our potential to unite around climate science when we approach it correctly. As negotiations on emission limits stall, now is the time for the industry to influence party proposals and chart a new course. 🌱 The massive support signifies widespread backing for ambitious climate requirements. It underscores that solutions exist and that with unified regulations, the construction, infrastructure, and real estate sectors can significantly reduce CO2 emissions. 📢 It’s time for our legislators to join us and show the courage to be as ambitious as our goals! 🚀 Political action can standardize and accelerate green demand, ensuring developers, contractors, producers, suppliers, and consultants commit to climate requirements that reflect science and comply with the Paris Agreement. 🤝 Alone, we can't meet the Paris Agreement goals. But together, we can. 🔗 Show your support at ReductionRoadmap.dk and see the full list of supporters. Let's mobilize for climate action the right way! #ClimateAction #GreenLegislation #TogetherForChange

What is the EU Taxonomy? At its most basic, it is a classification system that determines what activities can be considered sustainable (and eligible for green investment). In infrastructure terms, this means organizations will need to think about how their solutions make a substantial contribution to climate change mitigation, climate change adaptation, transition to a circular economy, and protection of biodiversity and ecosystems. Today, the European Parliament formally adopted the political agreement reached with the Council of the EU on the revision of the Energy Performance of Buildings Directive (EPBD). ACE congratulates the Parliament for this historic vote, which paves the way for the implementation of the Directive by Member States. “I am very glad that the European Parliament and the Council struck a deal on the revision of the #EPBD, which was an essential element of the Fit-for-55 Package. The Directive includes important provisions to spur the holistic renovation of the EU building stock and make the places we live in more comfortable, healthy and climate resilient, while actively contributing to reducing environmental damage. The vote of the European Parliament today is, therefore, a very positive signal for the climate, for citizens and for the construction and buildings sector”, said ACE President Ruth Schagemann. The ACE considers that the interinstitutional deal struck last December is a balanced compromise between the initial positions of the co-legislators, which will contribute to the decarbonisation of the #EU building stock. ↘ Read our full response here: https://bit.ly/3VfNlwm #BuildingTheTransition

Have you heard the news? 🗞️ The European Commission announced significant updates to the Construction Products Regulation (CPR). It establishes a clear framework modeled after the Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation (ESPR) measures to improve the environmental impact of construction products throughout their lifecycle. The updated CPR places concrete producers at the forefront of sustainable construction, requiring full lifecycle emissions reporting and digital documentation that align with EU climate goals. Material efficiency in #Argentina, #Indonesia, and #Mexico The UN Environment Programme released a set of International Resource Panel (IRP) reports that describe opportunities to reduce #GHG emissions from the construction and operation of residential buildings through material efficiency. The reports also document the outcome of a stakeholder process. The stakeholders created a dynamic action map that describes the relationship between opportunities, actors, and barriers. It created a detailed action framework to reach a set of five goals in each country. The reports document that the idea of using less materials and greener materials to provide shelter and to extend the lifetime of the shelter are ideas that are intuitively understood by the invited stakeholders, a combination of architects, construction sector representatives, and government officials, and translated into the context of their domestic construction sector. Both information and financing have been mentioned as major obstacles. https://lnkd.in/dk6akeq2

Dear politicians: If not us, then who? If not now, then when? The reduction to 7.6, which the government wants, has already been delivered by the construction and energy sectors. Reduce the carbon limit so it aligns with the Paris Agreement. AND SO THAT WE HAVE A LIVABLE FUTURE. The politicians are sitting in negotiations right now. It doesn't feel like any of them are considering the long-term implications of business-as-usual. They should know that we, as an industry, are ready to deliver on more ambitious CO2 requirements than were proposed on this week. "We have the country's largest investors, municipalities, contractors and advisors saying that we can easily do this. But legislation is key, because it must be done quickly and synchronously," it continues. Our politicians have a unique mandate from the business community, and they are completely dropping the ball. "We ask you to show confidence in the Danish construction industry and introduce the necessary legislation that will not only place Denmark as a global leader in climate action, but also as a pioneering nation for sustainable construction." "If not now, when? And if not us, then who? We are ready to act. Now we hope you are too," reads the concluding remark. Read more in Børsen with Brian Mikkelsen, director at Dansk Erhverv. Climate change is becoming construction's hottest topic. The built environment has a crucial role in climate change mitigation and to enable the UK to reach net zero by 2050. Companies operating within the projects and construction space need to be cognizant of the ever changing climate change regulations and carbon emission disclosure requirements. Have a read of our article which discusses in depth the impacts of climate change on construction and the relating laws and regulations which are being implemented by the UK Government. #climatechange #projects #construction
The construction sector is one of the largest emitters of greenhouses gases, accounting for 37% of global emissions. DOM.RF jointly with the The Ministry of Construction and Housing and Communal Services of the Russian Federation and the Green Building Council Russia / GBC Russia prepared an overview of the world's leading practices in "green" construction following the 28th Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP-28). The publication analyzes the green and energy efficient construction agenda in the world, its role in international relations and national regulations, and innovations in building materials and technologies. Also, for the first time, a foreign partner, the Emirates Green Building Council / Emirates GBC, took part in compiling a bilingual review of the results of SOR-28 in the construction sector. UAE has extensive experience in energy efficient construction, determined, among other things, by its own specifics - the hot climate. "COP-28 has clearly outlined the importance of decarbonizing the construction sector in order to achieve carbon neutrality of countries. The "green" agenda in construction today plays a key role among global issues, the real estate sector is a consumer of energy and materials responsible for about 40% of global CO2 emissions. The initiatives presented at the conference confirm the relevance of the collective goals outlined in previous years to reduce emissions from the entire sector by 50% from 2021 to 2030. Russia is actively involved in this process. DOM.RF tools are aimed at the sustainable development of the industry, the development of "green" standards for all types of buildings and the stimulation of their construction, financial and non—financial," said Marina Slutskaya, Director for Sustainable Development and International Cooperation of DOM.RF. "Russia is pursuing a consistent policy to reduce the energy intensity of the construction industry: the rules for determining the energy efficiency class of apartment buildings have been approved, a taxonomy of green projects is applied, including classifying energy-efficient buildings as green, the green GOST R for apartment buildings has been adopted, public discussions of a similar standard for residential housing have been completed, a list of measures to increase the energy efficiency of housing stock has been prepared. Cooperation with other countries is of great importance in this matter. All this work is ultimately aimed at the sustainable development of territories throughout the country," said Alexander Lomakin, First Deputy Minister of Construction and Housing of the Russian Federation.
