What is the EU Taxonomy? At its most basic, it is a classification system that determines what activities can be considered sustainable (and eligible for green investment). In infrastructure terms, this means organizations will need to think about how their solutions make a substantial contribution to climate change mitigation, climate change adaptation, transition to a circular economy, and protection of biodiversity and ecosystems. Read on to learn more about the EU Taxonomy and its impact on infrastructure construction and civil engineering https://lnkd.in/guNpJZzJ

Have you heard the news? 🗞️ The European Commission announced significant updates to the Construction Products Regulation (CPR). It establishes a clear framework modeled after the Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation (ESPR) measures to improve the environmental impact of construction products throughout their lifecycle. The updated CPR places concrete producers at the forefront of sustainable construction, requiring full lifecycle emissions reporting and digital documentation that align with EU climate goals. The European Union is aiming for climate neutrality by 2050, with interim CO² reduction goals by 2030, as outlined in the European Climate Law. A key focus is on sustainable buildings to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. In line with these goals, the Flemish Region introduced legislation in 2022, followed by the Brussels-Capital Region in 2023, and a pending decree in the Walloon Region. Despite having differing rules, all the regions mandate energy performance certificates and energy-efficient renovations for low-performing buildings, supported by grants, energy loans, and renovation guidance. Jasmina Sadek and Stefaan Van Dyck of our Silver Partner, Monard Law, tell us more about the measures being taken by the regions in the following article: ◾ NL: https://lnkd.in/eDSXsGhS ◾ FR: https://lnkd.in/eNnZdT8G

Published with today’s The Guardian, the Future of Property is looking at the critical role of the property industry in addressing current and future challenges. In it, I talk about how whole life carbon measurement is essential if you want to manage emissions and shrink your carbon footprint. This is why the new edition of RICS’ Whole Life Carbon Assessment standard has been extended to cover all buildings and infrastructure throughout the built environment life cycle. It’s now a global standard tackling a global problem. We’ll continue to work with industry and governments to get to a unifying framework for carbon measurement across the built environment and to highlight the role of RICS members as trusted professionals who can help clients measure and reduce carbon emissions across the life cycle of their portfolios. https://lnkd.in/dM_m8qZP

📢 Discover how the latest EU Taxonomy draft impacts construction materials by avoiding SVHCs : https://lnkd.in/dZKts49Z 👉 Looking to meet the latest EU Taxonomy standards? SECO Belgium is here to help you navigate the path to compliance.
On November 29th, the European Commission published a draft clarifying technical criteria under the EU Taxonomy. A key highlight? A clear confirmation that for new builts and renovations, construction products must avoid SVHCs (Substances of Very High Concern) listed on the REACH Candidate List - going beyond a simple CE-marking check. This draft emphasizes the growing importance of sustainable and safe materials in construction. 🌿 At SECO Belgium we’ve addressed this through our EU Taxonomy Monitoring, which for one aspect tracks construction products using product safety datasheets and ensuring compliance with these requirements so you can get your projects aligned. What challenges do you see in meeting these new criteria? Let’s share insights! You can find the entire article here: https://lnkd.in/eXWgdi6Y
