The abstract presented by ERN-EYE at the European Conference for Rare Diseases (ECRD) earlier this year has been published in the Orphanet Journal of Rare Diseases. 70% of rare diseases start in childhood. 25% of those children will not live to see their 10th birthday. I wrote this poem on rare disease day 2017 - 3 years after Ben died at 17. Still no treatments. Still working to change that. Today, even as we celebrate #rarediseaseday24 and the strength and determination of the #raredisease community, we must always remember that TOO many hearts ache. I will say it again. Peste des Petits Ruminants (PPR) is an acute contagious disease caused by the Morbillivirus, a member of the Paramyxoviridae family. It primarily affects goats and sheep, presenting clinical symptoms similar to those of rinderpest. The disease is characterized by acute onset, featuring fever, nasal discharge, erosive lesions, especially in oral mucosal tissues, diarrhea, and pneumonia. Differential diagnosis is crucial to distinguish PPR from diseases such as rinderpest, bluetongue, foot-and-mouth disease, and other clinically similar conditions. Common diagnostic methods include virus neutralization assays and competitive enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (cELISA). #PPR ELISA #Peste des Petits Ruminants (PPR)
