Parisa Clovis becomes the first Black, female, full-equity Partner laterally hired by a Magic Circle law firm in the UK... EVER Well done Julian Richard for this work and thank you for highlighting it Julian is the author of the report that found black lawyers made up just 1% partners in law firms. extense conducted a 21-month-long study, interviewing Black partners at law firms across the UK to discover the key contributing factors that assisted them in reaching partnership level #womeninlaw #femalelawyers #womenattorneys #womeninlegal #womenleaders
I don't see a woman or a person of colour just a deserving candidate for partnership who has no doubt built a following as a result of a superior intellect, good relationship skills and hard work !! It is a fantastic achievement for anyone to make partner especially an equity one in a magic circle firm.
Cannot wait to have you join the team Parisa Clovis
Shocked. She is the FIRST? This is way too late, but so so important that now the standard has been set. Parisa you made history!
When big and medium law firms intensify their employment of more Black solicitors into non-partner roles, then it would not be a big deal to employ the same into partner positions. A pool of Black solicitors with the potential to become partners, has to be created first, in these sort of law firms, which is currently not the case.
While I am thrilled for Parisa Clovis , and offer my warmest congratulations, the opening sentence remains a shameful state of affairs for the legal profession. I look forward to the time when being a black and female partner in a top legal firm will be unremarkable.
Very exciting news for us all at A&O Shearman - can’t wait to welcome you to the team Parisa Clovis!
EVER??? That is stunning and disappointing. Kudos to Parisa Clovis for shattering that ceiling!
So impressive. Congratulations Parisa.

5moThis is both joyous and yet tiring. Having witnessed and coached countless Black talented lawyers including those working in Magic Circle firms passed over for pipeline into equity partnership or seen just on the leadership track it’s right to celebrate but also note this is an exception. For those shouting merit there are a host of great lawyers who did the merit thing and still got passed over. Leaving said firms to go elsewhere or signing NDAs because if the dreadful behaviour saw the light of day way too many of the firms shouting meritocracy would be called out for their BS When you’ve been in this fight for representation for talented people you celebrate but recognise so much work needs to be done
