Today we're reflecting on resilience—a core value that took on new meaning during our Himalayan expedition. From navigating high-altitude terrain to adapting to life in remote mountain villages, every challenge taught us something about perseverance and growth. One key lesson? Sometimes slowing down is the path forward. As we learned at 16,000 feet, taking measured steps while maintaining steady breath was more effective than rushing. The same principle applies to service leadership—sustainable progress often requires patience and self-awareness. What challenges have helped you develop resilience? How has that shaped your approach to serving others? - Ryan & Thomas Growney #NewServiceAcademy Image description: A desaturated photographic image of someone standing with their fist raised against the sun low on the horizon, as well as the Service Academy logo and the words "Resilience isn't just about enduring—it's about growing through challenges."

After 40 days in the Himalayas with @NOLS_India, we discovered that adventure isn't just an escape — it's a powerful medium for living life more fully. Through navigating glaciers at 18,000 feet and building deep bonds with our teammates, we learned that true adventure means collective surrender, heroic self-confidence, and committed introspection. These insights have transformed how we think about service and leadership as we continue our gap year journey. During the final day of my glacier climbing in the Mountaineering course at NIMAS Dirang, we faced a tough 7-kilometer trek uphill from the base camp, with low oxygen, extreme weather condition and fatigue. Halfway through, I felt I couldn’t go on. I told my instructor, Dalvir Sir, that I didn’t think I could reach the summit. He looked at me and said, “Right now, you’re leading the way, and there are 70 people behind you. Sit and think until the last person passes by. You have two options: complete the task and finish the course, or quit and go back. No one will compel you. ” I sat down for a moment, contemplating his words. The challenge seemed impossible, but then I decided to push through. Drawing on every ounce of willpower, I successfully completed the task. During the certification ceremony, Dalvir Sir used my experience as an example. He highlighted that while most people rely on physical strength to climb mountains, willpower and gut feeling are equally important. His words resonated deeply, underscoring a vital lesson: true growth often comes from pushing beyond perceived limits, without force or compulsion. This experience taught me that, unlike military training, which enforces power and command, true experiential learning nurtures inner strength and resilience. It’s a powerful philosophy that I now carry with me in all aspects of life and work. How do you tap into your willpower when faced with a challenge? #Leadership #PersonalDevelopment #ExperientialLearning #Mountaineering #Resilience Photo near to Rani ki Jheel, a serene tarn on the challenging trek to Gorichen Glacier

This picture of my room is a reminder that no matter how long the night there will be light. One can become darkness in the dark, expect the light to arrive or become a ray of hope that eliminates the entire surroundings. We all strive to be for ourselves. The warrior strives for more. The warrior strives to become the ray of light.Thats when he is in the persuit of excellence. That's when he finds the meaning and the path. The phrase "A smooth sea never made a skilled sailor" encapsulates the idea that challenges and obstacles are essential for personal growth and development. Just as calm waters don't test a sailor's abilities, an easy life doesn't challenge one's skills or resilience. It highlights the importance of adversity in shaping character and building strength. Smooth sailing may be comfortable, but it doesn't foster learning or progress. It's the storms and rough seas that force sailors to adapt, learn, and become better at their craft. Similarly, facing difficulties in life builds resilience, determination, and wisdom. Without challenges, individuals may lack the experience and skills needed to navigate through life's inevitable rough patches. In essence, this phrase reminds us that it's through overcoming obstacles that we truly learn and grow as individuals. #digitalmarketing2024 #sucessmindset #peraonalbranding #UnlockSuccess #advertising #strengthwithin #Leadership #markering #UnlockYourself #paidpromotion #personalgrowth #branding

Nature Teaches Us!! "Bumpy roads make us vigilant." When we travel to a hill station, we don’t rely on cruise control. The roads are uncertain and more challenging than smooth highways. This forces us to be cautious and alert. We make fewer mistakes and control our impatience. We wait our turn to cross, and we care about speed limits. These challenges shape our behavior and teach us discipline. Similarly, life’s bumps symbolize its ups and downs. They test our resilience and patience. But, just like the journey to a hill station, the destination is always beautiful. Nature Teach us how we can be successful in throughout the life. Ups and downs are symbols of learning. They prepare us for greater success. “A smooth sea never made a skilled sailor.” ~ Franklin D. Roosevelt ~ It is never about the age that determines your experience. Your experience comes with the amount of hardships you have encountered in your life and thus, acquired them. If your life has always been easy, you cannot claim yourself to be a person with experience. A skilled sailor is the one who has witnessed all the obstacles in the sea, yet managed to reach the shore. Likewise, you need to overcome all the hurdles in life in order to grow enriched and successful in your life in the long term. If you wish to enhance your skills, you ought to allow yourself to be put in tough situations. At the same time, do not let the circumstances break you. Let those situations make you as well. This isn’t determined by the situations you face, but by the intensity of the obstacles you are put in. Cheers to combating all the obstacles in your life. You sharpen your skills with time and with the experience that you achieved throughout your life. I believe in you. #lifechallenges #obstacles #determination #perseverance #keepmovingforward #skills #lifeskills

During the week im all business. I work an 8-5. On my lunch break i get in a jog around my neighborhood. I go back to work. I do that thing that i have done for 31 years. I turned 50 last week. Im done doing the thing i have done for 3 decades. I have squeezed all of the juice out of it. I can give it no more. Why? Because it has nothing to do with what i recently realized i want to do. Write. I have always enjoyed reading. I love the written word. I love books. I love sentence structure. Im fascinated by the way authors decide to put their thoughts on paper. The way those thoughts form into words. After work, i focus on reading and writing. Writing something. Anything. If only for 15 minutes. Because my week goes to work, my family, and striving towards writing full time…. Once Friday night comes around? Click. The switch flips off. I literally feel my brain switch to weekend mode. Time for me to drink a little bit of Bourbon. Some Buffalo Trace. Maybe a little of that stuff you see in the John Wick movies. After a night of kicking ass and getting his own ass kicked…a few ounces of Blantons Bourbon. It relaxes me while i lie on the couch watching Youtube on my Ipad. My brain has switched off. I am now a vegetable. Im likely sitting there with my ipad 6 inches from my face. Earbuds in? Check. Mouth hanging open? Check. No creativity? Check. But, not as much lately. On weekends, especially in the last couple of months, i have forced myself to kind of rewire my brain. What do i want to do? I want to fuckin write! So dont sit there on the couch zoned out on your ipad until you have written something even remotely worth a shit to at least yourself! God forbid you make it worthy to somebody other than yourself. Bring value to somebody? Im putting in the time. I have rewired myself. Not as much as i should. But im working on it. Im getting there. Im getting away from putting all of my eggs into the weekend basket as far as relaxation. I now catch myself at points during the weekend. “You could have written a few paragraphs by now. About something. About nothing. Just write. Im getting better at quieting my own judgements. Boy i tell you. The more i write, the more i realize i love it. Now i just have to keep on writing. So i can get better at it. Doesnt it seem strange to love doing something and not be at least decent at it?

Getting your resource (getting in the boat) is the first step. Once that is done, positive forward action must be taken to accomplish your goal (become a sailor). #takeaction #staythecourse #accomplishments
