Our Latest Episode #8 just dropped, discussing the urgent need to support deeptech startups in light of DeemMind’s extraordinary achievement at the Nobel Prize 2024. This is, indeed, a big moment for the #AI community of innovators, not the hype pushers. The episode explores when will governments and investors start prioritising deeptech startups which have always been the true sources of innovation, as opposed to hype-driven crypto scams, and Hollywood-level AI nonsense (as we have witnessed with cringy "We Robot" event: discussed here: https://lnkd.in/eyig3Hhm) Will the 2024 Nobel Prize make any difference, or will the business world continue toward brain drain? Below is the episode's summary, citations and Raoul's full profile on the AI Geeks website: https://lnkd.in/eGzEhtRc Links to the episode are included in the comments below. #NobelPrize #Innovation #DeepTech #Investment

When I pitched at Rare Founders - I loved the question about "AI companies" in parenting and what I made of them. My answer ... 1. there are many issues in parenting that can be solved with AI, all parents know the pain of letters/emails/texts/forms coming in from all areas and how clunky it all is 2. however, these problems aren't unique to parenting, as our phones become more intelligent, much of this will be handled by general tools without need for specific parenting AI 3. AI can never replace real human interactions which are vital for child social and emotional development, and combatting loneliness in parenting 4. AI has a place - but as Chip Hazard outlines in this podcast, most companies will have AI embedded without being an AI company 5. I am a former academic, so you know I have done a deep dive and threat analysis already 🤣

After the "We Robot" cringe (discussed here: https://lnkd.in/eyig3Hhm) there is a light at the end of the tunnel, which I discuss in the latest episode of the AI Geeks - Podcast & Journal below. But will governments do anything about it? Will investors be able to recover from their recent obsessions with Hollywod-level, hype-driven pump-and-dump approach to tech and AI innovation? What is the future of the DeepTech sector?

The startup landscape is poised for a dramatic shift, with AI playing a pivotal role in this transformation. 🧐 OpenAI CEO Sam Altman foresees a future where a single person, leveraging AI tools and thousands of GPUs, can build a billion-dollar enterprise. Altman has charted a path with five stages toward Artificial General Intelligence, beginning with chatbots and culminating in fully autonomous organizations. OpenAI's latest advancements offer a glimpse into this promising future. Visionaries like Marc Andreessen and Ben Horowitz from the venture capital firm a16z have also explored the concept of highly efficient, lean businesses. Andreessen points to Bitcoin as a trillion-dollar entity born from the vision of the pseudonymous Satoshi Nakamoto. Though not a conventional company, Bitcoin demonstrates the impact a single idea can have when powered by advanced technology. 💡 Companies like Instagram and WhatsApp further illustrate how small teams can achieve phenomenal success. As AI tools continue to advance, creating impactful ventures will become increasingly accessible. What new opportunities do you foresee with the rise of AI-driven startups? a16z is making a significant move by constructing its own GPU cluster with the potential to house up to 20,000 Nvidia GPUs, a venture valued at hundreds of millions of dollars. This strategic decision is geared towards bolstering support for their portfolio companies in a groundbreaking manner. In a landscape where GPUs are scarce and highly sought after, startups often face challenges in acquiring the necessary resources. The 'Oxygen' initiative by a16z not only addresses this critical issue for emerging companies but also enhances their ability to secure lucrative deals, showcasing their unwavering dedication to providing exceptional services to entrepreneurs. The upcoming integration of this new GPU cluster with a16z's existing ventures, including the crypto fund, presents an intriguing prospect. As the demand for AI and computational capabilities continues to rise, a16z is evidently positioning itself at the forefront of this technological evolution. I see Blockchain x AI and Blockchain x Data being a strong niche for the next few years. And on that note Wynd Labs (Grass) and Vana are possible the 2 best upcoming ones in Data.
