During the last two anecdotal polls I ran, a really interesting trend emerged: conversion tracking is a sore spot. The first poll was about the "least beginner" topic and conversion tracking won by a long shot. Comments included: 1. Trouble getting conversion tracking set-up due to client/department clashes. 2. Server-side conversion tracking can be tricky. 3. Debates over what should be primary (counted in reporting) vs secondary (seen but no impact on reporting or algo) conversions. The second poll was about the most egregious mistake in Google Ads, and it was a no contest win for double counting conversions. This can happen because: 1. Both Google Ads and Google Analytics conversion tracking are being counted as primary conversion actions. 2. There's an attempt to use micro-conversions but conversion values aren't being used. 3. Lack of awareness of what's being tracked as conversions. Make sure you're keeping track of your metrics and if you see performance that's too good to be true, it just might be. Looks like conversion tracking is the new math class we all dreaded in school! But seriously, it's crucial to audit your settings regularly to avoid double counting and other errors.
