What happens when two sustainability stalwarts like Patagonia and Deschutes Brewery combine efforts? The first USDA-certified, organic non-alcoholic beer, of course! One of the more exciting NA beer launches of the year, the Kernza Golden NA, along with its full-alcohol counterpart, the Kernza Lager, is made from (and named for) the perennial grain that improves soil health. No different than in any other industry, promoting sustainable methods in beer making is really important, and kudos to both of these socially-responsible companies for taking a lead position (and yes, the beer is really good, too!). Sustainability isn’t just a buzzword for me. It’s a deeply personal mission that shapes everything we do at Limited Addition. As a winemaker, I believe that producing exceptional wine goes hand in hand with protecting the environment and ensuring the future of our craft. From the vineyard to the cellar, sustainability influences every decision we make. We prioritize organic and regenerative farming practices to nurture the land, conserve water, and protect biodiversity. These choices not only result in healthier soils and ecosystems but also wines that truly reflect the essence of their origins. Packaging is another area where we focus on reducing our footprint. By opting for lighter glass bottles and recycled materials, we aim to minimize environmental impact without compromising quality. For me, sustainability isn’t just about the planet—it’s about people too. By extending harvest seasons and promoting healthier working conditions, we ensure that the people who make wine possible are supported and valued. At Limited Addition, we believe that every bottle should tell a story—not just of great wine but of responsible stewardship of the land and community. Sustainability isn’t just a practice; it’s a promise to future generations. How do you see sustainability playing a role in the future of wine? I’d love to hear your thoughts. #sustainability #winemaking #organicfarming #regenerativeagriculture #sustainablewine #wineindustry #environmentalstewardship

Meet Penrhos Spirits… the “#SeeingGreen Solutionist of the Day” for September 9. Penrhos Spirits is a British distillery founded by two farming families in Herefordshire. The company is known for its handcrafted gin and other spirits, which are inspired by the local countryside. Penrhos Spirits prides itself on producing high-quality, small-batch products using locally grown ingredients, including their own farm’s berries and botanicals. The distillery’s roots in farming and their deep connection to the land play a significant role in the identity of their brand. Penrhos Spirits is also dedicated to sustainability and reducing waste in their production process. One of their key initiatives includes using surplus farm produce, such as “wonky” fruit that does not meet supermarket standards, in their spirits. This not only minimizes food waste but also promotes a circular approach to farming. Additionally, the company is the first distillery to move their spirits into 100% recycled aluminum, moving away from heavy and fragile glass bottles (energy intensive to recycle) and to a lighter, stronger and more environmentally friendly solution. Their commitment to sustainability reflects a broader mission to protect the environment while creating exceptional spirits from farm to bottle. Check them out here: https://lnkd.in/gFCP3gcr Thank you Charlie Turner, Richard Williams, Robert Cooper and the entire Penrhos team for all that you do! About the "#SeeingGreen Solutionist of the Day" This series celebrates and highlights the brands and innovators dedicated to creating a greener, more sustainable world. Each day, the series shines a spotlight on a trailblazer making significant strides in promoting eco-friendly living through innovative products, solutions and practices. #sustainability #spirits #sustainablespirits #solutionist #greenlivingdoug

I'm excited to try Patagonia x Fieldwork Brewing Co.'s new Kernza lager! I've always admired Patagonia's steadfast commitment to the environment and continuous push for sustainable options. As The Drinks Business notes in a subsequent article, a recent Pall Corporation survey found that despite the cost-of-living crisis over half of respondents would pay up to 30% more for a more sustainably-produced beer. As we have more unusual and unseasonable weather and realize the full impact of human consumption on the environment, sustainable production, throughout the supply chain, will continue to grow in importance. Coupled with Gen Z's preference for brands that authentically champion their shared values, it will be increasingly necessary for brands to launch with sustainability ingrained into their DNA, like Patagonia and Brother's Bond Bourbon, or find ways to organically incorporate it into their existing operations. https://lnkd.in/gw3b-_af

At the Green Restaurant Association, we're passionate about finding sustainable solutions, and organic food also plays a crucial role in reducing food emissions. According to the Natural Resources Defense Council, “Because fossil fuel-based fertilizers and most synthetic pesticides are prohibited in organic farming, it has a significantly lower carbon footprint.” Here are important certifications and standards to look for when purchasing sustainable food: USDA Organic Products must show they are protecting natural resources, conserving biodiversity, and using only approved substances and pesticides. Certified Bird Friendly Coffee 75% of the world’s coffee farms are destroying habitats to grow coffee in the sun. This coffee is grown in shade to preserve habitats for birds and other wildlife. Certified Naturally Grown Their certification model relies on peer inspections, transparency, and direct relationships for food producers who do not use synthetic chemicals or GMOs. Demeter Certified Biodynamic A guarantee that products are from biodynamic agriculture. Seafood Watch (Best Choice) Sustainable seafood that is caught or farmed in a manner that preserves the long-term viability of species. While sustainable food is not the only solution to reducing food emissions, it offers significant environmental benefits. By prioritizing sustainable options and supporting local and regional sourcing, we can make a positive impact on our planet and contribute to a more sustainable food system.
