India has 3,600 deeptech startups, ranking sixth globally, according to a Nasscom and Zinnov report. In 2023, 480 deeptech startups were established, double the number from 2022. These new startups focus heavily on AI, with 74% specializing in the field, up from 62% between 2014 and 2022. Notable companies include Agnikul, GalaxyEye, HealthPlix, Sarvam AI, and Peptris, spanning healthtech, sustainability, AI, and space-tech sectors. Jeyandran Venugopal, Chair of the Nasscom DeepTech Council, emphasized India's strong STEM talent and potential to lead in AI, quantum computing, and next-gen robotics. While India ranks third in the technology startup ecosystem, it is sixth in deeptech. For India to climb higher, Kritika Murugesan, Head of Nasscom DeepTech, highlighted the need for patient capital, strong R&D partnerships, and the implementation of the 2023 deeptech policy. 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝗿𝘁𝘂𝗽 𝗦𝗽𝗼𝘁𝗹𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁: Weekly Funding Overview [09 - 14 Dec] During the week, as many as 40 Indian startups raised $787 million in funding including 16 growth-stage and 23 early-stage deals while one startup did not disclose the amount raised. Among the growth-stage deals, foodtech firm Rebel Foods led with $210 million in funding followed by supply chain financing firm Mintifi, digital automotive solutions provider CarDekho SEA, industrial robotics maker Haber, solar startup SolarSquare Energy, and custom solutions provider for school operations K12 Techno Services Pvt. Ltd. Among early-stage deals, AI platform for business transformation RapidCanvas led the list followed by quick commerce platform FirstClub Technology Private Limited, integrated skilling firm FinX, allogeneic cell and gene therapy provider East Ocyon Bio Private Limited, and security solutions startup VergeCloud.
