My website says, “With a focus on visually appealing and easy-to-read typography, we ensure your message is both seen and understood…” WHY IS THIS IMPORTANT? Typography isn't just about picking a font; it's an art and science that enhances readability while captivating the audience. KEY ELEMENTS OF TYPOGRAPHY Legibility and Readability: Text should be clear and easily distinguishable, with appropriate font choices, line lengths, and sizes that create a smooth reading experience. Your chosen fonts should align with your brand while remaining easy to process. Aesthetics: Beyond basic readability, typeface selection influences emotional response and sets the overall tone of your content, making it more engaging and appealing to your audience. DON’T FORGET LEADING Leading (the space between lines of text) affects both readability and mood—tighter spacing can appear more professional, while looser spacing creates a more relaxed feel. Proper leading helps guide readers smoothly through your content, enhancing your text's visual appeal and effectiveness. TYPE ELEVATES Whether refreshing your website, crafting marketing materials, or building your brand identity, thoughtful typography can transform your message from merely readable to truly memorable. Let's connect and discuss how strategic typography choices can help your content make a lasting impression. Interesting! I never gave this that much thought though recently a creator submitted sponsored video content using a funky type, I think for Halloween type of theme, but for a medicine brand name. NOT allowed! It never ceases t amaze me how people in various professions may not understand that you can't just do what you want to a trademarked brand name. I would love to see a scientific analysis of the psychology behind typography!

Font pairings can be difficult to get right and your list of criteria is doubly important when deciding what to use for display type and body. Font pairings need to be tested in as many situations as possible. What works on a website doesn't necessarily work on report design etc. It amazes me that this doesn't seem to happen and it is just assumed to always work across the board.

It's such a balance... Edgy illegible fonts can look cool and work with some audiences. Who probably isn't reading anyway? But I stick to clearer communication. And as I've got older the type size has gone up, and i'm forever look at bottles and having to use the zoom on my camera to read them. What is your advice about type and age?

Typography is sooo important and can change the whole vibe of a website or marketing collateral. It sets the mood and conveys the brand personality. I think this is a very difficult area for people to DIY, as it's really an art form!
