The Government of India has introduced an initiative requiring banks and financial institutions to use phone numbers beginning with 160 when calling their customers. This measure aims to reduce fraud by helping customers identify genuine calls from their banks or financial institutions. By ensuring that legitimate calls are consistently made from numbers starting with 160, this initiative builds customer awareness and enhances trust in interactions with financial service providers. It’s a strategic move to address the rising concerns of phishing and scam calls, where fraudsters often pose as bank representatives. Educating customers about this numbering system not only fosters safer communication practices but also strengthens the security framework within the financial sector. This step by the government is a commendable approach toward creating a more secure and transparent financial ecosystem for citizens, safeguarding them from potential fraud.
