An AI-Driven Industrial Design Database 💽 PatSeer, a company that helps users do patent searches, has created a new service for industrial design firms and manufacturers. The problem the service was designed to solve, is as follows: "In the past decade, design registrations have surged in Asia and North America owing to market globalization and the rising value of designs as a competitive asset. This has led to more frequent and complex legal disputes." Designers can stay out of legal trouble, the company reckons, by first doing research to see if anyone's designed anything similar to the thing you're working on. To make this easier, they've created an AI-powered Industrial Design Search service "with unparalleled coverage," they claim, citing access to 20 million design registrations across 86 different design registers. Research shows that companies devote too little effort to examining problems before trying to solve them. By jumping immediately into problem-solving, teams limit their ability to design innovative solutions. The authors recommend that companies spend more time up front on problem-framing, a process for understanding and defining a problem. Exploring different frames is like looking at a scene through various camera lenses while adjusting your angle, aperture, and focus. A wide-angle lens gives you a very different photo from that taken with a telephoto lens, and shifting your angle and depth of focus yields distinct images. Effective problem-framing is similar: Looking at a problem from a variety of perspectives helps you uncover new insights and generate fresh ideas. This article introduces a five-phase approach to problem-framing: In the expand phase, the team identifies all aspects of a problem; in examine, it dives into root causes; in empathize, it considers key stakeholders’ perspectives; in elevate, it puts the problem into a broader context; and in envision, it creates a road map toward the desired outcome. #DecisionMaking #ProblemSolving

Collaborative Video Diffusion Research on video generation has recently made tremendous progress, enabling high-quality videos to be generated from text prompts or images. Adding control to the video generation process is an important goal moving forward and recent approaches that condition video generation models on camera trajectories make strides towards it. Existing video diffusion models generate videos separately, which may result in inconsistent frame contents (e.g., geometries, objects, motions) across videos; Collaborative video generation aims to produce videos sharing the same underlying content; the model is trained on video pair datasets, and extend it to generate more collaborative videos. 🚨CVPR 2024 Highlight Paper Alert 🚨 ➡️Paper Title: SpatialTracker: Tracking Any 2D Pixels in 3D Space 🌟Few pointers from the paper 🎯In this paper authors have proposed to estimate point trajectories in 3D space to mitigate the issues caused by image projection. 🎯Their method, named “SpatialTracker”, lifts 2D pixels to 3D using monocular depth estimators, represents the 3D content of each frame efficiently using a triplane representation, and performs iterative updates using a transformer to estimate 3D trajectories. 🎯Tracking in 3D allows the authors to leverage as-rigid-as-possible (ARAP) constraints while simultaneously learning a rigidity embedding that clusters pixels into different rigid parts. 🎯Extensive evaluation shows that their approach achieves state-of-the-art tracking performance both qualitatively and quantitatively, particularly in challenging scenarios such as out-of-plane rotation. 🏢Organization: Zhejiang University, University of California, Berkeley, Ant Group 🧙Paper Authors: Yuxi Xiao, Qianqian Wang, Shangzhan Zhang, Nan Xue, 彭思达, Yujun Shen, Xiaowei Zhou 1️⃣Read the Full Paper here: https://lnkd.in/gZ4C7PRF 2️⃣Project Page: https://lnkd.in/g4a4mBGa 3️⃣Code: Coming 🔜 🎥 Be sure to watch the attached Demo Video-Sound on 🔊🔊 Music by Maksym Dudchyk from Pixabay Find this Valuable 💎 ? ♻️REPOST and teach your network something new Follow me, Naveen Manwani, for the latest updates on Tech and AI-related news, insightful research papers, and exciting announcements. #cvpr2024

🚨SIGGRAPH Asia 2024 (Journal) Paper Alert 🚨 ➡️Paper Title: Perspective-Aligned AR Mirror with Under-Display Camera 🌟Few pointers from the paper 🎯Augmented reality (AR) mirrors are novel displays that have great potential for commercial applications such as virtual apparel try-on. 🎯Typically the camera is placed beside the display, leading to distorted perspectives during user interaction. 🎯In this paper, authors have presented a novel approach to address this problem by placing the camera behind a transparent display, thereby providing users with a perspective-aligned experience. 🎯Simply placing the camera behind the display can compromise image quality due to optical effects. 🎯They meticulously analyze the image formation process, and presented an image restoration algorithm that benefits from physics-based data synthesis and network design. 🎯Their method significantly improves image quality and outperforms existing methods especially on the underexplored wire and backscatter artifacts. 🎯They then carefully design a full AR mirror system including display and camera selection, real-time processing pipeline, and mechanical design. 🎯Their user study demonstrates that the system is exceptionally well-received by users, highlighting its advantages over existing camera configurations not only as an AR mirror, but also for video conferencing. 🎯Their work represents a step forward in the development of AR mirrors, with potential applications in retail, cosmetics, fashion, etc. 🏢Organization: Snap Inc., Columbia University 🧙Paper Authors: Jian (James) Wang, Sizhuo Ma, Karl Bayer, Yi Zhang, Peihao Wang, Bing Zhou, Shree Nayar, Gurunandan Krishnan 📝 Read the Full Paper here: https://lnkd.in/gnbvS6KE 🎥 Be sure to watch the attached Explainer Video - Sound on 🔊🔊 Find this Valuable 💎 ? ♻️REPOST and teach your network something new Follow me 👣, Naveen Manwani, for the latest updates on Tech and AI-related news, insightful research papers, and exciting announcements.

🚨 CVPR 2024 (Oral) Paper Alert 🚨 ➡️Paper Title: MultiPly: Reconstruction of Multiple People from Monocular Video in the Wild 🌟Few pointers from the paper 🎯In this paper authors have presented MultiPly, a novel framework to reconstruct multiple people in 3D from monocular in-the-wild videos. 🎯Reconstructing multiple individuals moving and interacting naturally from monocular in-the-wild videos poses a challenging task. Addressing it necessitates precise pixel-level disentanglement of individuals without any prior knowledge about the subjects. 🎯Moreover, it requires recovering intricate and complete 3D human shapes from short video sequences, intensifying the level of difficulty. 🎯 To tackle these challenges, authors first define a layered neural representation for the entire scene, composited by individual human and background models. They learned the layered neural representation from videos via their layer-wise differentiable volume rendering. 🎯This learning process is further enhanced by their hybrid instance segmentation approach which combines the self-supervised 3D segmentation and the promptable 2D segmentation module, yielding reliable instance segmentation supervision even under close human interaction. 🎯A confidence-guided optimization formulation is introduced to optimize the human poses and shape/appearance alternately. 🎯They incorporated effective objectives to refine human poses via photometric information and impose physically plausible constraints on human dynamics, leading to temporally consistent 3D reconstructions with high fidelity. 🏢Organization: ETH Zürich, Microsoft 🧙Paper Authors: Zeren J., Chen Guo, Manuel Kaufmann, Tianjian Jiang , Julien Valentin, Otmar Hilliges, Jie Song 1️⃣Read the Full Paper here: https://lnkd.in/gDUzF63a 2️⃣Project Page: https://lnkd.in/g_UVYcqN 3️⃣Code: Coming 🔜 🎥 Be sure to watch the attached Demo Video-Sound on 🔊🔊 🎵 Music by raspberrymusic from Pixabay Find this Valuable 💎 ? ♻️REPOST and teach your network something new Follow me 👣, Naveen Manwani, for the latest updates on Tech and AI-related news, insightful research papers, and exciting announcements. #CVPR2024 #3D

The second session the #Friday #Frontiers talks takes place on Friday 8th November 2024, 10.30am WET / 11.30am CET / 12.30pm EET Title: #Visualising #Knowledge: #3D #Digital #Editions and Their Scholarly Potential Speakers: Prof. Susan Schreibman (Maastricht University) and Dr. Costas Papadopoulos (Maastricht University). Registration Details: https://lnkd.in/eHt9uZAg Abstract: Scholarship in three dimensions can transcend the limitations of traditional two-dimensional representations of objects that exist in the physical world in three dimensions. It has the ability to provide users (both researchers and the public) with immersive and interactive experiences, enhancing their study and interpretation. This is true for 3D representations of individual objects and for more complex reconstructed scenes. 3D Digital Scholarly Editions add a contextualising layer of scholarship to the model: scholarship that has been possible for several decades for text-based editions. The contextualising possibilities share much with traditional digital scholarly editions in terms of textual annotation and apparatus, but it also has the possibility of, not only incorporating multimodal annotation (images, video, as well as other models), but annotation that is 3D-specific, such as tools for measurement, for views into the model, the use of textures and colours to represent reconstruction and hypothesis. The presenters of this talk have been addressing these challenges and potential through two interrelated projects: PURE3D which is developing an infrastructure for the development and publication of 3D Digital Scholarly Editions, and OPER3D which is exploring Open Publication and Peer Review for 3D Scholarship. As such, this talk will also consider issues related to data preservation, standardisation, as well as issues around the publication and peer review of 3D DSEs. This presentation will showcase the scholarly potential of 3D DSEs, advocating for their adoption as a new tool in the DH toolkit for new formats for the dissemination and interrogation of knowledge.
Welcome! You are invited to join a meeting: Friday Frontiers Autumn/Winter 2024 - Susan Schreibman & Costas Papadopoulos. After registering, you will receive a confirmation email about joining the meeting.
