It’s midnight, you’re abroad, trying to pay for your hotel, and all your cards are declined… Next to you, there’s a gentleman who lost his wallet. No cash, no cards, and he can’t pay the deposit with his smartwatch. Travel nightmare? Nope, real life. And a 'Moment of Truth' for customers, and the relationship with their bank... Stressful, chaotic, and unforgettable These customer stories create insights, help us identify pain points, and inform our roadmaps So let me share with you this travel horror story, During Money2020 in Vegas - both James Beattie and I were stuck: 👉 My cards wouldn’t work. 👉 He lost his wallet and couldn’t pay the deposit. Minutes felt like hours. And anxiety started to raise... And somehow after a very stressful time I managed to pay... with a traditional bank card Phewww! While minutes before I was thinking I may have to wait out all night... I saw the same thought in James's face Somehow kindness took over me, and I asked this stranger... Yea I didn't know James then. "Hey, are you here for Money2020? I'm also having issues..." He was like, "Yeaa I lost my wallet, And my colleagues arrive till tomorrow night. I just need to pay the deposit, Can You help? I can transfer you anywhere now, I have Wise" The hotel manager was like "Wow this is the first time I see this happen, specially in Vegas. You are too kind." LOL He was a stranger, turned friend As a result of a bonding experience over travel trauma The irony of failed payments in a money conference 😅 While it is funny now, it was genuinely a very stressful moment How can we translate moments like these into innovation with actionable insights? For years I've dreamt about a travel solution for Solo Travelers, specially designed for women I'm happy to pay more to have peace of mind and know that I can get access to a "concierge" that can help me sort things out Travel is stressful and sh@@t does happen, There's an untapped opportunity here, FinTechers, please can somebody 1. Do discovery, 2. Size the problem, 3. Add it to your roadmap, 4. Make it a huge success so that other FinTechs copy your solution - you will be having a ton of impact!! Fortunately nor James nor I had to be homeless for the night, we figured it out But it was freaking stressful! Who else has had a travel nightmare? Who would pay extra to have help on the spot to help you figure things out? 1wI freaked out the other day, because after servicing my watch, the guy says I only accept cash. I was not going to leave my expensive watch with him. How to pay him since I only had my phone with me? Ideas?
