New CDS faces a glass ceiling? An interesting piece and very likely. The CAF is possibly short more than 16,000 troops and although 70k applicants approached recruiting center last year we enrolled 4,000. There needs to be a strong look at retention to slow the bleed. The time may be right to bring back the Cl B "double dip" to retain talent, slip into VAC and see if you can find retired talent that can ride a desk and free up "deployable" talent, restock our ammo depots and prepare for readiness training, get rid of some of the "relaxed" regs and bring back a fighting force image. Nato pressures are going to grow as some are now saying 2% isn't enough ... Colby, a prominent Trump supporter who could play a key national security role in a new Republican administration stated, "We now need to see 2.5 per cent realistically as a baseline. Especially with countries, like Canada, that have dismantled their militaries." She has a tall order ... we need to bring back a fighting force... and just maybe the best man for the job isn't one. https://lnkd.in/e3HXhm8u
⚡WOMEN, PEACE, SECURITY (WPS): Perspectives from the Director ⚡
🗨️"Foundational to all of our programs at the George C. Marshall European Center for Security Studies are common values. Those values of democracy and freedom and good governance and rule of law peace and security conflict prevention and resolution as well as human rights. If 50 percent of a nation's society is ignored, how can you progress from autocracy to democracy on that scale if there's no inclusion, if women aren't truly empowered?"
🔍#GCMC Director, retired U.S. Air Force Maj. Gen. Barre Seguin posed this question during an interview while attending the Naval War College (NWC) for its annual Women, Peace, and Security (WPS) Conference on May 2-3, 2024, in Newport, Rhode Island. The theme for the 10th iteration of their NWC WPS conference was, "Advancing Gendered Security in a Complex World: Hard Power, Smart Power, Soft Power."
➡️Overall, the gathering aimed to foster a shared understanding of the complex and dynamic global security environment through examination of women’s influence and experience as stakeholders and catalysts of change alongside men. GCMC aims to integrate WPS across the board in all of our programs, and the lessons learned from the various experts that have already incorporated WPS in their respective curricula at their respective institutions will serve as a template for GCMC's action. One of these experts was Professor of International Affairs, Dr. Valerie Hudson from The Bush School of Government & Public Service.
🗨️"I get back to the quote that that Dr Valerie Hudson said, 'if you get one thing out of this, I want you to remember that what you do to your women you do to your nation,'" said Director Seguin. "The insight and ideas that she gave us will really help to enrich our [WPS] incorporation into our programs as we go forward."

Easterly Government Properties has a unique strategy when it comes to investing in properties. The REIT focuses on the acquisition, development, and management of Class A properties leased to the U.S. government through the General Services Administration. The properties are specially designed for the agencies they serve and the professionals who work there—providing environments that can’t be replicated in homes.
CEO Darrell Crate says Easterly is currently in the midst of further widening its target market. “These agencies serve a number of needs for the government, such as facilitating military activity or implementing legislation like the CHIPS Act, and require facilities that are going to have initial lease terms for 10, 20, 30, even 40 years.” Easterly is working to get those facilities developed quickly in a way that’s sensitive to the needs of the agencies, he adds.
