Judging by the response I had to my posts about responsible and ethical AI adoption last month, I'm sharing the second paper from the Team Flow Institute Fellows. In this, we examine how to prepare for integrating AI (not just generative AI) in business and human collaboration – the duet, not the duel. Some of the key points: ⭐ Reframe AI's role – augment human capability rather than replace or automate ⭐ Rethink how you measure success – shift from productivity to progressivity ⭐ Shift to business as possible – what can AI enable the business to do that is now impossible ⭐ Develop a comprehensive digital and governance strategy – aligning AI to the business objectives and a digital centre of excellence for responsible and ethical adoption and use ⭐ Effective change management, communication and culture – this is often the Achilles Heel for digital transformation, so you need to get this done right ⭐ Invest in continuous learning and skills – not just AI, but the essential skills of critical thinking, EQ, creativity, communication and ethical reasoning ⭐Org design, structures and team composition – creating and maintaining team flow You'll find practical guidance on integrating AI ethically and effectively and adopting the Team Flow model to ensure a healthy culture ready for positive change, innovation, continuous learning, and risk-taking. I am proud to share Team Flow Institute Fellows' latest paper, "How to Prepare for the Integration of AI to Achieve Business and Human Success." In its simplest terms, AI has been classified as a series efficiency tools, built on creating productivity and savings. Now, through the lens of the Team Flow model -- which prioritizes collaboration, communication, and innovation -- this paper focuses on several ways AI can drive the human element of business. Among them: 🤖 How AI technologies can augment and elevate human work rather than just automate tasks. 💪 Empowering employees rather than replacing them and placing more value on human work. 📊 Measuring “progressivity” -- as opposed to productivity -- as a key success metric. 🌟 Envisioning new opportunities and possibilities with the addition of AI technology, rather than just adopting a new technology and conducting business as usual. 📢 𝐂𝐚𝐥𝐥 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐏𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐢𝐩𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧📢 🌏 For many who have followed my LinkedIn posts, you will know I have travelled the world recently to strengthen connections with many responsible AI and AI safety research organisations, including all the new AI Safety Institutes (AISI) and many national organisations/programs with a critical mass in responsible/safe AI. CSIRO's Data61 has built active collaborations with organisations in the US, UK, Canada, Japan, Singapore, India, Germany, and France on this topic, with a strong focus on AI system trustworthiness engineering and assessment (beyond AI models and organisational governance/management aspects). Australia is effectively leading the formation of this community. 🌟 One way for this community to exchange ideas and collaborate is through the workshops we organise and the organising/program committee members we invite to set the directions. We deliberately designed these to be hosted at different academic communities as we observe that these communities (AI/ML, Software/AI Engineering, Social Science/Law/Philosophy) do not talk to each other on this topic as much as we hope for. 💡 One ongoing one, co-organised by Qinghua Lu, is the 𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐩𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐛𝐥𝐞 𝐀𝐈 𝐄𝐧𝐠𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 (𝐑𝐀𝐈𝐄) workshop hosted at the premier software/AI engineering conference, ICSE. Last Wednesday (13th of March 2024), I had the opportunity to attend a Cosec breakfast roundtable session - AI in Boardroom, organized by Taylor Root and many thanks to Sam, Izzy, Brogan, and Philippa for having us and putting this together. The speakers, Martyn Chapman and Paul Johnston ACG laid thoughtful foundations to the topic which made everyone contribute their bottled-up cents on various facets of AI integration in the boardroom. The discussions among the guests covered a wide array of topics (from my little jottings), including: 1. The impact and benefits of AI in the boardroom. 2. Practical insights on how AI can revolutionize corporate reporting, courtesy of Paul's invaluable tips. 3. Strategies for governance professionals to seamlessly integrate AI into the boardroom, ensuring directors are onboard with the transformative plan. 4.
