Bridging the Gaps for Climate — Don’t Be Afraid of the Numbers

Regarding climate change, the United Nations (UN) defines net zero as “cutting greenhouse gas emissions as close to zero as possible, with any remaining emissions re-absorbed from the atmosphere, by oceans and forests, for instance.”

2022 began positively, with net zero momentum building and 91% of global gross domestic product (GDP) covered by net zero commitments. Many companies prioritizing sustainability and investment commitments grew by 11% in the year's first half. However, the war in Ukraine, the highest inflation in four decades and the possibility of falling economic growth make net zero harder to achieve.
Governments and businesses are trying to balance short-term goals with the transition to net zero. The angst of needing to do more beyond commitments and move to systematic change is growing heavier and seen as a risk. This is where communication professionals can collectively step up by helping to bridge the gaps between expectations, commitments and action. -
How to beat the Great Attrition through communication and alignment

The pandemic upheaval caused deep workplace fault lines, resulting in employees feeling disconnected, disengaged, and lacking a sense of belonging—all major contributors to the Great Resignation.
But organisations can tackle each of these crucial issues head-on—and, in doing so, stem attrition and improve talent acquisition—through effective communications and stakeholder alignment, to deliver the employee experience their people need and the customer experience their clients expect.
In this guide, communications and alignment expert, Zora Artis, explores:
Why the Great Attrition is an opportunity for internal communications, HR, and business leaders
How internal communications plays a pivotal role in shaping the employee experience and enabling alignment, connection, and belonging
How the digital experience—whether employees are in-office, remote, or on the frontline—can amplify both the employee and customer experience

Doing Right, Aligning Values and ESG: What We Can Learn From Pfizer

Societal values, behaviours and expectations are evolving, and we’re seeing a realignment of society and ways of working. Business is seeing the opportunity and, in reality, the need to step up.

Strategic Alignment: How communicators can change the face of leadership
International Association of Business Communicators Foundation
Did you know that some of the world’s organizations are routinely poor at aligning themselves and have been for decades? What if we said that only 26% of respondents feel that their colleagues see the corporate strategy as key to the way they do business, according to our global study? So much for organizations being united by shared purpose.

So much for organizations being united by shared purpose.
Our study involved research with 227 communicators over the period from June to July 2018. The majority (80 per cent) of respondents were senior-level communicators in organizations from less than 50 to more than 1 million employees. Communicators from across the globe participated, with 46 per cent from North America, 43 per cent from Asia Pacific, 10 per cent from Europe/Middle East and 1 per cent from Africa.Other authorsSee publication -

Business acumen in internal communications: Why it matters and how to build it
Poppulo
CEOs and business leaders today want their internal communication professionals to be business people first, communicators second.
This is backed up by surveys showing that business acumen is in the top 10 skills and competencies internal communicators need. Yet a VMA Group survey in 2018 highlighted business acumen as the skill and competency they lacked most.
Of course, this is not a new problem. As Amit Bajaj, CEO of Tata Consultancy Services, Europe, told IC Kollectif:…CEOs and business leaders today want their internal communication professionals to be business people first, communicators second.

Of course, this is not a new problem. As Amit Bajaj, CEO of Tata Consultancy Services, Europe, told IC Kollectif: “Business acumen, co-existing with communications expertise, is the foundation of good internal communication. IC pros should know how the business works, its strengths, weaknesses, and opportunities. They should have an overall sense of everything that happens inside and envisage the future.”
In a recent white paper, Going beyond engagement: The business value of internal communications for the C-Suite, the CEO of Artis Advisory, Zora Artis, explored what communication professionals need to do to be strategic advisors in an environment of constant challenge and change.
In this guide, Zora focuses on the key competencies and characteristics communication professionals need to become more rounded and strategic. At the centre of these is the foundational one of business acumen. -

In this white paper, Zora Artis, GAICD, SCMP, takes a closer look at the business value of internal communications for the C-suite, particularly in a period of rapid business, technological and political disruption, and what communication professionals need to do to be the strategic advisors their leaders need at a time of constant challenge and change. -

We believe that now more than ever, companies and their leaders must cut through the day-to-day noise across their organisations, to drive change and strategic growth initiatives forward. Transformation requires a workforce that understands and embraces change.
It means that your people must be engaged, aligned, and have a positive experience and connection to the workplace, and understand the role of the work they do.
This is where employee communication is front and centre, and this paper looks at organisations that know this and get the results they want. -

Bonnie Caver, IABC IEB Chair, said "Zora was the only non-IEB member on our Strategic Planning Taskforce. If you were lucky enough to be at the Leadership Institute in Austin in February 2020, you'd know Zora took us through this amazing customer journey mapping workshop. It hurt our brains a little bit, but it gave us a valuable path toward elevating the IABC experience. She always asked the right questions during the strategic planning process and guided us through a strategic alignment exercise. And she did this whilst being past chair of the APAC region and the incoming chair of the World Conference Program Advisory Committee. Thank you, Zora, for helping us bring a game-changing strategy across the finish line. But most importantly, for being all in for IABC and the communication profession." -
